How to Install Headlight Protection Film

There are a number of vendors selling the clear (or colored) plastic film for your headlights, so I posted a quick how-to. I have this stuff on all of my cars and it really protects from breaks and chips. A must have for any track car, for sure:

How to Install Headlight Protection Film

Enjoy!

Where did you buy the 3m film? Their website gives the impression they only sell it to shops..

most of the shops have the equipment to cut it to fit your vehicle and they'll sell it to you precut or installed. just look for a local installer and give them a call.

I've had this on my headlights from day one and it's really amazing stuff. The 3M stuff is still preferred for the headlights as it's the thickest available at 1/8". I was told by my installer that it is designed to take a 175mph rock impact and has a $1000 warranty behind it if your headlight is damaged.

A tint installer? I just don't wanna spend some crazy amount for it!

Anywhere online there are 3M's precut?

I'll swing by a shop tomorrow too.

Found this one, looks like they have a few kits available for the Evo. I'm going to give them a call and ask a little more about it.

guys, if you'd read my post earlier, just look on 3m's website for local installers near you. they have the cutting equipment with a database full of vehicles so they can cut prefit for any vehicle listed. tell them your vehicle, have them cut out what you nee, go pick it up, you don't have to have them install it. you can buy it precut from them local.

Found a seller on ebay, 3M 8 mil for $35 shipped. He has 15 mil too.

Not sure how thick each of those are though, so I need to get a better idea before I order.

3M is the thinnest of the 3 major brands of protection film. i think laminix is the thickest, you can get 20mm or 40mm i think.

Wouldn't 8 or 15 mil be thick enough? I am not looking for boulder protection, just pitting and such, and I figured the thinner would be less noticable.

i imagine it is thick enough, yes. alot of people use the 8mm 3M, so i'm sure it works. the thicker stuff is probrably better if you do alot of road racing and such where you encounter debris at high speeds sometimes.
