Stereo install, HELP!!!
I'm installing an alpine deck into my evo. following everybody's advice I purchased a metra wiring harness for mitsu 1994-up. I also grounded the deck separately into chassis. everythig is all wired up but the deck doesnt power up. the car starts but interior lights and power locks doesn't work. I was thinking maybe there is a short in the way I wired up the deck so I disconnected the harness and plugged in the stock radio and that doesn't work anymore either, no power. I checked all the fuses inside and in the engine compartment and they are all ok. anybody else had this problem before. Is there anything I overlooked? any help would be greatly appreciated.

i run an Alpine CDA-9825 in the 03 & just grounded by bolting in with the side brackets from the stock radio. that will ground it fine. cap the existing ground cable. this is the exact same issue i had. u may have also blown fuses by "double grounding" so check all your fuses underneath the driver's side dash & under the hood by referencing the owner's manual for interior &/or radio relays. lemme know if i can help further.

fuse for radio is not in engin compartment its in the little "hidden" compartment left hand side by your knee you need to pull the plastic holder out and fuses are behind that check them
 good luck
also most radios have fuses built into them you might want to look into them and also check to make sure all ur wires are good b4 you put a new fews in thers a reasion that it blew in the first place.

chinto is right, most people who hook up radios 75% they blow the fuse. but i just connect the ground staright up to the ground wire. vbmenu_register("postmenu_1604944", true);

not to repeat to what everyone has said but it does sound like a wiring issue resulting to a blown fuse. recheck them all (both inside, under the hood and on the radio just incase).
Also, it's best if you disconnect the battery while doing all of this.
If all fuses are still ok, post a pick of the wiring harness you created. Someone might be able to point out the problem for you.

i work @ a shop, and if you bought a metra plug(ones i carry) it should hook up fine, and without blowing any fuses. I can think off hand if the plug has a ground in it or if it is external, but the cd player is "isoload" so you just take the little braketsont he side off the stock and screw them into the new headunit. But like everyone else said, you might have blown a fuse hooking it up. Take a multimeter or a test light, and check every fuse possible, even if you dont think its that one..check it..both sides. peace

I put in a Sony CDX-M9900 radio using the metra harness designed for 2003 up Lancer. Since the radio does not plug into the harness, I hard wire every single wire that come with the radio. Good luck man, and keep us updated.

I checked all the fuses inside and in the engine compartment again. they are all good. don't know if any of the relays are blown, I don't know how to check those. so stock HU, interior lights, and power locks do not work. haven't gotten a chance to check what else doesn't work.

I am not sure but have you reset the car yet? Say disconnect the battery for about 15-20 minutes and then reconnect it? This might help if a relay is stuck or there is a hang up some where.
Just an idea.
You didn't cut any of the wires on the car's harness? just the Metra Harness right?

Are you trying to bring it back to stock? not using the new headunit? I would do all of your trouble shooting with the old stock radio. This will eliminate at least one problem if the new radio is the issue.
Let me ponder some thoughts on what could be the issue.
