Oil Light Flickering ( I May Have Solved The Problem )

Alright as many people know, alot of evos have the little idle problem were the oil light flickers.

Basically when ur idling, the oil light out flicker on and off as the rpm jumps around 700-1000 arm. The oil light would not stay on but just flicker.

Well i had this problem on my car and it was annoying, so after messing around with different things my car finally stop doing it.

Mods on car

The steps i did to try and solve the problem

1. I did a boost leak and fixed all my leaks
2. Got my car retuned
3. Replaced my 10w30 oil with 10w40 oil
4. Asked around if it was my cams (fp4rs) and many said no
5. Cleaned out my iac valve on the trottle body

6. Finally, i replaced the oil pressure switch on the back of the block.
I went to my local autozone and they had 1 in stock for $6.00

When u go in to purchase one, they will ask if u need a mutli prong or a single prong.

If ur using a gauge us the multi.

If u dont have a gauge like me, get the single prong.

Located the sensor as shown in the vid,

to actually remove the sensor u need to buy a special socket made for the oil pressure switch.

Go in the socket ile of autozone and ull find it.

If u guys have any questions plz feel free to ask.

I'm always willing to help evo guys out

i had a nice dent in my oil pan on my old DSM that caused the same sort of issue, at idle it would not allow the pick up tube to get as much as it should and i could watch my oil pressure drop. removed oil pan, hit oil pan with hammer and block of wood, sealed and reinstalled oil pan, problem was solved. might be worth looking at.

I was bothered about step #3. So you changed from 10W30 to 10W40? If I remember it correctly, somewhere in this forum said something about oil weight and type that is recommended to use on the 4G63 motor. But I guess at least it fix your problem I can't seem to fix my ACD light problem. Hate those 3 lights. I think I'm going to schedule a time I can go to the dealer and wait for them to check it while I'm there.

2 things with the oil pressure problem

1. either your sensor has gone bad like evokid said
or
2. you dont have enough oil. For some reason a lot of people think its 5 qts but its actually 5.4qts. That measurement comes exactly from "the" manual.

My oil sensor started flickering and I put in the correct amount of oil and problem solved.

I also bought that same sensor from vatozone but those bastards didn't tell me about the special socket for it.

I changed to 10w40 oil as i was recommended by ams.

Also by changing the oil, i noticed a big change in idle but the oil light problem was not fixed

Gauge as in a oil pressure gauge.

My car has no gauge to monitor oil pressure so i dont need the multi prong sensor

Well, yeah, the total capacity including the oil cooler is 5.4 quarts. I run an over sized oil filter and the most oil I'm able to install without being over the full line on the dip stick is 5 quarts. So, not all of this 5.4 quarts drains.

The only thing you did that fixed the issue was replace the sending unit for $6.00.

The rest of the list was a waste of time.

It is common for the idiot light sensor to fail.
