Vishnu Tuning in Pleasanton, California runs a wickedly fast Mitsubishi EVO VIII in performance contests. They recently won the small sedan class in the 2004 Tire Rack® Cannonball One Lap of America event, riding on BFGoodrich® g-Force™ T/A®KD tires. They also won the skidpad competition for that class, effectively claiming top sport compact honors. More remarkably, the Vishnu EVO VIII exceeded 1g in doing so, the only true four-door passenger car to break that magic barrier. (The only cars to beat the Vishnu car on the skidpad were Corvettes and Porsches.)
Shiv Pathak, proprietor of Vishnu Tuning, chose BFGoodrich® tires for the event because his driver, Paul Gerrard, recommended them. Why did Gerrard recommend them? Because he won the 2003 Tire Rack One Lap of America skidpad event outright in a Ruf 911 on BFGoodrich g-Force T/AKD tires.
"Paul told me the BFGoodrich tires were extremely durable, besides providing superb traction,'' Pathak says. "He also praised the stiffness of the BFGoodrich sidewall. That's a quality we very much needed for this event.'' In addition to its superb traction, Pathak said, the BFGoodrich tire wears evenly, without chunking and breaking up.
Pathak says after the multi-day ordeal of the Tire Rack One Lap of America, he pulled the tires from the EVO VIII and put them on his own street car. "They drive just fine,'' Pathak says. "The tread depth is reduced, but the block design is intact. They don't look worn.''

They hold the current world record for street radials in drag racing, set by Dwayne "Big Daddy" Gutridge on a set of g-Force T/A® Drag Radials -- 8.05 seconds at 181 MPH on 11/23/03. OK I can see the difference in the ads! The older ad is for the GForce "Sport" when it won best in dry and the newer ad is for the GForce "KD" when they hit the 1.08G mark! The pictures are different too. One has the Vishnu with the "Sport" tires and the other with the "KD". The vinyl on the EVO is different also. Both are great tires!!

What record are we talking about here? Is there some kind of great big book of skid pad test results somewhere? There is no way in hell an Evo has the skidpad record using street tires, I'm sorry but thats retarded. Are talking about race cars or stock cars? Street tires or slicks? I'm confused. The Evo is has a very high center of gravity and devote's 50% of its power to the front wheels. Since the front wheels of the Evo are trying to accelerate and turn and that same time, understeer results. A front engine rear wheel drive car (or mid/rear engine) devotes 100% power to the rear and the front wheels are for steering only. Its very plain to see that a car with a lower center of gravity (say corvette, or mclaren F1) that is rear wheel drive is going to have more grip (since the front tires are 100% devoted to TURNING). AWD sucks on the skidpad.

read my post # 34. They are talking specifically about the Evo taking top in it's category at One Lap. Which as far as they're concerned makes it the Sport Compact record holder...

Mclaren F1 = .87 on the skidpad also.

I think the evo does nearly 1g on the skidpad stock. Does it not?
