Depends on your money situation. I'd immediatly rule out the 06 STI though. Why get something that's mechanically the same with a fugly frontend?
If your 04 doesn't have the turbo surge, keep it. Slap on a 20G if you want more power and get a custom tuned Utec or something.
As for jumping to an Evo RS, have you been in one? It's pretty raw... It's amazing how close yet dissimilar the Evo's are than the STi's. Btw, my stock (back when it was 100% stock) Evo IX was nearly as fast as an 05 STi with Cobb stg2. It's not all that much power with Cobb I have to admit.
Have you driven the Vette? I drove an 05 and hated it. 400hp in a Vette doesn't feel like 400hp in an STi. My STi was putting down 310whp/330wtq and it felt so much stronger than the Vette. Plus the ride was horrible, you sit on the ground and it feels as rough as an Evo! Not to mention no back seat and there's 10000 other ones out there. Exclusivity is pretty sweet.
I've got a thread I created awhile back, search under my userid. I was looking at more cars than you and I've already owned and Evo and STi. Check it out. I'm too lazy to search.

Drive the C6 corvette and see if you like it. I drove a few C5's and wasn't that impressed with them. Coming from a BMW M Coupe (the Z3M coupe that uses the M3 motor), I am used to sharper turn in, good agility, refinement, and eye catching looks. The vette has a certain following that I don't really appreciate. i.e. all the gold chain wearing friggin yanks and the rednecks that love NASCAR. I didn't want people like that admiring me. I could really care less who admires the car... it's just another factor to consider.
I also drive a 297 hp WRX wagon, so I know where you are coming from. With the vette, you will enjoy the NA punch and you will enjoy taking the traction control off. You won't enjoy the reduced room and lack of traction when things get tricky.
I sold my M Coupe and bought the Evo IX. Loving every minute of it. Even though the Evo isn't near as sexy a car as the M Coupe... I still enjoy the drive and that's the most important factor for me. That, and the fact that it's stink fast. I added a 3" exhaust and a Vishnu reflash to bring power to 390 bhp one week after buying the car. Love it.

i drove both evo and STi back in 04 when i bought teh STi...i liked both back then lol...liked the sti stock power more though
as for the vette i have not driven one...i did own a 2004 mach 1 and see how the american cars handle like bricks..but the 400hp is what has me tempted
if i get the evo...i want 550hp like was seen on speed tv ..all turbo..no nos...they had 30k to spend but they did suspension and stuff too...i just want the power...550hp=10k???
i like raw and the more raw the better...this is why i want RS vs MR....will 10k make 550hp?

Vishnu has a 550 hp kit for under 4K I believe. Spend another 2K on some good coilovers. For 6k you'd be set but, for 4K you would be set as well. Talk is cheap though. Realistically, I'd just drop the money into your STi if it's burning a hole in your pocket.
You may like driving a C6. It's basically got the performance of a C5 Z06. Getting the dealership to let you take one out may be a hassle though.

i could do that..but what happens when #4 piston takes a dump
if chevy don't let me drive it then they don't get the sale ....i don't play dealer games i'll just walk out! thats what stoped me from buying the evo in 04!
