Ok - so we were watching Rhys Millen do some drifting in a 7, and launches in an 8 this weekend when we started asking him about the two cars. He said he definitely preferred the handling of the 7 over the USDM 8. I was kinda bummed about that, until we saw him launch the USDM 8 and shoot past the EVO 7 at the strip. It's pretty obvious that the skill of the driver is more than sufficient to bridge the gap between the performance of the two cars.

If there were two Rhys Millens driving the cars, the outcome would probably be different - and DEFINITELY be interesting. Since there is only one, however, I'm thinking my EVO 8 kicks major butt.

As Fedja mentioned earlier, to even have a chance at noticing a difference between the two, you have to be willing and able to push the car to its limits. For 90+% of the EVO owners, this won't be the case. The cars will be driven back and forth to work with a few spirited runs down local back roads. Who needs AYC for that? Few, if any. To push the car hard enough to get any real benefit from the missing features, you'd better be on a track somewhere. And how many EVO owners are going to hit the track hard and heavy with their new $30k purchase? Few.

The power difference is easily recaptured, and more. So there's really not much to be disappointed about.

A ralliart edition would be cool if just for the badging alone. I can imagine Mitsu would release such a thing, too. Might that explain why the current EVO is so "detuned" from the factory?

Great....a new guy to the boards with "insider" info. We'll wait for something more official considering all we've heard so far from the people we already trust that work for is that there will not be any sort of Ralliart Evo. Whatever....I have mine and I'm happy.

I personally wouldn't have minded paying a little extra for the AYC, which I think is pretty cool. I think you get the option to turn it off in case you want to drift. What I really would have liked on the US EVO is the 6-speed. Right now it feels like there is a noticeable gap between 4th gear and 5th gear. There are times in my commute where I would prefer strolling in the 5th, but it is too tall, but when I down shift to the 4th, it definitely feels too low. This is usually in LA traffic, cruising about 40-50mph.

Perhaps we are missing ayc/acd and it has been slightly detuned to americans standards. Can't blame mitsubishi for america not wanting polluted skies. On a personal note my friend got to ride in the STI at the commercial while all of us were doing that loop circle thing. He had to say he was impressed and I am glad. Both of these cars are machines from hell. I am personnally getting sick and tired of people complainingn about thier purchases, other peoples purchases or just want to feel cool for sayingn one can beat the other. My friennnd of course his answer was, I am totally inn love with subaru now, i was like cool i am glad the car has power, but it doesn't mean i will be runnningn my bottom over there to get one. To many people let thingns get to there head not realizing the pure essence of these cars. Perhaps its just me but for people who have to patronize and verbally attack annother person just seems weak. All in all i am not angry nor pistabout our version because we got our evo, and i dont' like to compare because its not worth the power of the beast. but I do plan on takinng this to thetracks and go through traiingn because after the years of learningn about cars and everythinng this is one hobby that in due time will grow as it has to keep me from blowing my brains out from everyday mundane hell. .. but for people who do have the cash and have a strong following with subaru should purchase the sti it will be worth your hard earned cash. For people who trust mitsubishi stay with evo. Both in comparison are great cars. But for people who are bounncing back andn forth which one should i get, which one is better, you will be stuck there for a longn time, and basically you can be considered as wussy as country joining the side that supposively wins. On a side note of my dailyrant, i hope to see some people buy the sti in southern cali to hang out with plus some evo owners. possibly get a rally team of some sort, for training and whatnot.. btw... sti is beautiful in person.

Actually seeing the STi in person made me glad I got the EVO. Don't get me wrong, it looked pretty nice and probably drives great. But for me personally as far as looks are concerned, the exterior of the EVO is a lot more appealing. I also like the EVO interior better, mainly because the seats are Recaros and the blue on the seats is more subtle compared to the STi, which is pretty bright. I also love the EVOs MOMO steering wheels as opposed to the STi factory one. Of course the EVO drives awesome, but I assume the STi does the same.
