new update 12-12-05 Baseline Dyno and 9vs8 dyno

-Dyno'd the car today at Injen, baseline dyno run.

Baseline EVO9 Dyno - Bone stock

Here is a comparison of our stock 9 vs a stock 8 that was dyno there earlier.

The buildup will start in a few days, We will update this thread as soon as we get more pictures.

================================================

New Update 12-15-05
-------------------------------------------------

Tear down of the 9 begins..

Mivec Motor - getting ready for new headgasket and studs.

turbo assembly

factory 9 turbo - 2000 miles only

Clutch also arrived today.. OS Giken Twin Plate

Project EVO IX Update 12/21/05
-------------------------------------------------

We had time to swing by SP Engineering today after work and we were able to snap these pictures. Many thanks to the genius mad scientist Hiro who is doing all the nitty gritty work.

Here we have the turbo mounted and the wastegate on. We haven't bolted everything down just yet, we're doing some test fitting. What isn't pictured here is that we have welded the wastegate reroute up on the downpipe elbow. Also, we have installed the HKS Metal Headgasket installed already.

Intercooler, lift, and stencil.

Different angle.

Hipermax RS with adjustable camber plates. It has different sets of holes for the camber screws on the plates that allow you to set the camber in further than others. (I am still new with EVO suspension so if anyone has information to correct me, please feel free to do so. )

It looks like its crooked but thats cause the hangers aren't on and its not 100% bolted up yet.

Closer shot of the turbo mounted.

Here is a picture of the new clutch system. We installed a OS Giken Twin Plate and it came with this conversion from a push type to a pull type system.

Lastly, this is a picture of the 9 JDM rear bumper that we just got in today.

================================================

12-30-05 Project EVO IX Update!!

Starting to look like an engine bay once again.

A closer look.

The Sard Fuel Pressure Regulator setup with the Defi fuel pressure sensor hookup.

Just wanted to show the piping underneath the car. Fitment is perfect.

Helix test pipe fits perfectly.

Artsy fartsy.

Radiator overflow & HKS Twin Power Ignition Amplifier

Some custom work that JDM Mel Gibson did. We welded the flap shut on the wastegate reroute piping and made this custom dump tube.

Another view.

Just wanted to show the clearance of the under body braces in relation to the HKS downpipe. (This downpipe is specific for the turbo kit.)

Everything is almost buttoned up.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.........

We learned that to fit 1000cc injectors on the stock rail you will need to file down the spacers.

The Oil drain tube needs to be repositioned 1-1.25" to the left on the oil pan side to meet up with the drain tube coming off the turbo.

The standard HKS Racing Suction kit will not work with the OS Giken clutch kit due to the push/pull conversion. A custom intake will be fabricated.

The DLI II we used is the same as the Evo VIII, it is a direct plug and play device.

The Koyo radiator requires us to use a slim fan on the battery side.

The VIII's FCON VPRO harness plugs are not close at all to the IX's configuration.

The HKS R Type Intercooler bolts on proplery with all the brackets. There are no issues with fitment of the intercooler. As far as the piping to the turbo, that had to be modified a little. This is specifically for the turbo kit; I don't have info on the stock IX turbo + HKS R-Type piping setup. It might fit perfect for the stock IX turbo. though. Some of the under body splash guard had to be trimmed.

Anything else I will keep you guys updated. It's late and I think I'm forgetting some things but I'll let you know as it comes to mind.

================================================

Project EVO IX Update 1/20/06
-------------------------------------------------

Completed Engine Bay

Very tight fit, we had to get a slim fan...

The heart of it all...

We had to remove the grill, crash beam, and cut the bumper for this monster to fit!

The cockpit, please excuse the mess...

Another view...

Close up

================================================

Project EVO IX Update 2/15/06
-------------------------------------------------

Here is a small update, nothing much to see except for the light show inside the cabin hahaa. The car was fired up for the first time today and it purred! There was no hesitation thanks to the FCON! Dyno time should be this week sometime... we're getting very close to the end!

Here are some pictures of the FCON Harness that HKS sent over. The EVO8 FCON harness plugs right into the EVO9.

Enjoy!

Out of curiosity, how did you come to choose the 3037 over the 3076 or 3071?

Some helpful turbo airflow numbers...

Small 16g = 36 lbs/min
Big 16g = 38-39 lbs/min
EVO3 16G = 42-43 lbs/min
EVO8 16g = 42-43 lbs/min
6H-20g = 49 lbs/min
50 trim = 50 lbs/min
60-1 = 62-63 lbs/min
35R comp = 64-65 lbs/min
