my car was jacked up by the splash gaurd underneath, as i was told that there was a crossmember above it that would support the weight of the car.

needless to say this completely mangled the splash gaurd itself and the screw that held it in.

a day later, i went to the track and my car was not shifting into 4th very well. The car would grind unless i was super slow with the shift, and after a while, it wouldn't not go into gear at all unless i double clutched it.

the question is: can jacking up the car at the wrong point mess up the clutch / tranny in a way that can induce grinding / general transmission failure, etc?

I had the dealer put in a stock clutch, and now the problem seems to have gone away, the gears do not grind anymore although they are still a bit difficult to get into gear.

opinions ? suggestsion?

Man i think it's your syncro's. I had the same problem. shifting into 4th and 5th gear. I took mine to union Mitsubishi in Korea town last week and they are changing the 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear syncros. I get it back tomarrow. Give there service department a call tomarrow, I'm positive they will change them for you under warrenty. there number is 213-368-1900 ask for Gerome.

were they easy to deal with?

i don't remember a gerome working there, only this older asian fellow and a hispanic guy.

Yeah, my first reaction was that this was definately a synchro problem.

However, i'm not sure why replacing a clutch would get rid of the problem, but it has (for now, knock on wood).

There is a hook underneath to Jack it up from the front if you need to do that.

Yea the older asian guy is Gerome.

There pretty cool about mod as long a the mod you have does not directly effect the problem your having.

If your stock clutch was burnt to the point of being warped, the tolerances would be out of whack. When you disengage a clutch with a heat warped pressure plate, there can be spots where the warped pressure plate never fully disengages from the clutch disk. This results in the clutch still grabbing a minute amount causeing the car to grind when you shift gears. So yes, a bad clutch can cause grinding problems.
