Speedometer reading slow

I just finished up my clutch install and everything seems to be working great except for the speedometer. I noticed that it's reading about 5-8 mph too slow and I confirmed this with a GPS speedo. I never had this issue before so I assume I just over looked something.

I did notice that there was a coating of grey "stuff" on the sensor when I pulled it. It looked like anti-seize compound. I didn't remove it cause I figured it was some sort of factory application.

Anyone have any ideas on what could be causing the incorrect reading?

+1 If your not running factory wheels/tires that can cause this. It is possible the sensor is on its way out but I would looks elseware first.

Yes and the speedo read right before I did the job. Somethings gotta be screwy with the sensor. Anyone know what that stuff on it from the factory is?
