up this thread, if the flapper is not seating properly would it hold the boost at the desired setting before tapering down or would it not hit the boost at all right from the start? my hks turbo would hit 18 psi before slowly tapering down on 2nd gear and third gear. it just wont hold. thanks for the input.

I forgot from your own thread....how are you controlling boost? If you can install an MBC for troubleshooting this would be a bit easier to diagnose. Incidentally, did you ever get the new actuator from the dealer?

Hi sparky, i havent had time to bring it back to the dealer just yet. Im just searching and researching in the mean time. I hope ill be able to bring it back this week. Im also using an hks evcs for the boost control. However i did remove the vac line to the actuator and went for a run in 2nd and 3rd. Initially on the 1st run it displayed the same symptoms but on the next runs it was already over boosting. So i was thinking the rod isnt preloaded properly and now im also thinking the flapper might not be seating properly, but this is a brand new unit.... I also saw a flapper door replacement on another thread by fp. Do you think this would work on the hks? Thanks once again.

Let's try adjjusting preload before we go replacing flapper valves. I kinda recall the HKS turbo as having a larger diameter flapper valve than the MHI 16G turbos. So, best check. But, lets adjust preload first. As you yourself mention...yours is a brandnew turbo and you would not expect the flapper valve itself to have already warped.

One question so far: preload. I understand the rod of the actuator connected to a flapper should be tighten not to move at all. Is this correct?

OK, I've figured out what it was. Please see the pic. HKS actuator just broke in parts What I can use to replace it?

yes that the first I have seen brake like that. no one makes a direct replacement actuator. you would be best to custom fab one or see if hks will sell a replacement one. and if really in a bind you can fix the one you have. i have welded to bottom a cans. only the top portion is sealed. you could weld a new bottom plate on that one. if done right it could be stronger than original. I do suspect one of the nuts worked loose on yours which led to it cracking the can like that. every boost cycle would have been flexing the can. didnt have a chance.

i don't want to go wth hks so I guess I'll try to replace the hks one with forced performance or whatever

welding does not work as there are too many cracks and zinc on the surface (tried that thing before) but thanks for advice either way

Sure. Is there anything I should know BEFORE I'll install FP WGA with this turbo?

Man I appreciate this! You wan to say they (WGA) are different? Can I use FP and attach HKS rod to it? That's what I wanted to do... HKS does not want to sell a WGA.
