the HKS Hi-Power sucks?

I recently purchased one of these, and have yet to put it on my car. However, in speaking with David Buschur recently, a point was brought to my attention, that the HKS Hi-Power, although being a 3" system , has a reducer toward the front of the exhaust, so it can connect to the factory 2.5" cat.

Mr. Buschur mentioned that this effectively reduces flow such that a 3" is not too much better than if you had a 2.5" to begin with.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how this can be remedied?

well, that may be true, and the Buschur exhaust is definately a good piece, but nonetheless, i believe Mr. Buschur has a point and i think it should be addressed by something other than an accusatory statement based on his motives.

Drives: Evizzel Eightizzel... uhm shizzel.

I think he makes sense....

For example:
Think of an hourglass. Eventhough the bottom is very large, that does not mean it has better flow, the sand will only flow as much as it's tightest restriction.

If you run air through a 2.5inch pipe into a 3inch pipe you won't get much more air flow than a 2.5inch pipe throughout.

the HKS exhaust is 75m= 3". however it does have a restriction of 2.6" which means that it will probably flow a little less than a true 3" exhaust. however, the flow difference is minimal and you will probably won't feel a lot of differnece. a lot of high hp cars use this exahust with no problem.

93civEJ1- let me know when you want to buy the exahust. i have a good suprize for you...

I have the hks dp and carbon ti, and that **** pulls hard but its prob more becuase of the dp than the cat back. When eigen engineering (Billy is a master mitsu mechanic I recommend them if your in socal) put the exhaust on it didnt look like it was that small, the piping looked all the same size.

if the whole "hourglass" scenario is true...then why would anyone get a catback exhaust...you are still going from a restrictive 2.5 to a less restrictive 3" exhaust....the only concern is if you are eventually going to finish the whole exhaust and get a cat delete or a high flow 3" cat

going 3 to 2.5 to 3 again is less restrictive than going 2.5 all the way

If this is the case, wouldn't all cat-backs that will bolt up to the stock cat have to be 2.5" at one end?
