get the hks hi-power ti or 30th's if you want all stainless steel.
i just have the standard hi-power. only the axle-back is stainless.

Dave is right - the exhaust will have a slight restriction in it. But you ahve to remember, this restriction is downstream in the system, so not as critical as if you had it right at the exhaust side of the turbo. Any exhaust that bolts to the factory cat, regardless of the maker, will have this, and I ahve not noticed it hampers performance one bit. Remember too that most of the downpipes are not fully 3 iches either, nor do they frankly have to be with this turbo. So, you go from an average downpipe size of around 2.6-2.7 inches (which is what most of the aftermarket ones are), into the stock cat, then into a cat back section that gets bigger again - its how nearly every aftermarket system I have seen for nearly every car works, and until so you start going significantly larger on the turbo side, the diameter is big enough. Hvaing driven cars equipped with a full Fujitsubo system (downpipe, and cat back with stock cat), HKS (HKS downpipe, catback, stock cat), and then driving the same cars fully decatted, in comparison to the Buschur, the cars felt the same for all practical purposes on the road. Bottom line - you cannot go wrong with any of the systems on the market right now, all are very nicely designed and will yield very similar results.

The Hi Power is mild steel piping that is coated, with stainless muffler

Hi Power 30th Anniversary is all stainless

Hi power Carbon/Ti is all stainless, but the muffler is wrapped in carbon and the tip is Ti.

Question hks hiper ss exhaust and after market 3inch cat

Does anyone know if the hks ss hiper exhaust will bolt directly onto a aftermarket 3inch free flow cat??? I am planning on purchasing the exhaust and a 3 inch downpipe and free flow cat...

When you go to a 3 inch cat and DP, you have to cut the reducer off and have the exhaust modified with a new flange.

I have the J-Spec HKS Hi-Power... It's awesome... It might be just 1 or 2 decibles louder than stock!! Amazing.. I can feel the additional ponies comin out... The end of the pipe where it connects to the cat does taper down, but BARELY... Like it has been said before, there are other vehicles that produce serious HP, that run the same setup as that.. HKS actually gives you the 2.6 inch downpipe with thier upgraded turbo kit... And, ever since I bypassed by boost, HOLY **** this thing is haulin ass...

You all have to remember that a lot of R&D took place before any of these exhausts, especially the ones from reputable Japanese tuners, came out. There's a reason why some exhausts are designed differently than others. Some exhausts focus on maximum horsepower gains, some try to become CARB legal, some go for the low decibel sound, some go for just the looks, while some figure in the science of backpressure and hold back on making larger diameter exhausts. Compared to the stock exhaust, most aftermarket exhausts will certainly prove to be better. Just depends on your taste, goals, availability of funds, and of course brand preference.

I prefer the HKS Hi-Power exhaust because HKS over the years have become very experienced in tuning Evos. After all, their turbocharging and exhaust systems are widely used in drift and rally racing, particularly in Evos. Not to say that Buschur isn't experienced in tuning cars. Buschur is well known as a 4g63 icon in tuning. Either way you go, you're still going in the right direction.

Is there much of a difference between the full stainless and the mild steel? Is the full stainless worth the extra 100 or should I just go for the mild steel. My evo is a daily driver and im keeping it mostly stock, just doin the full exhaust and a few bolt ons, nothing too serious.

ok here you go. the hks does infact taper down where it meets up with the factory cat. i however got it because it sounds amazing and i got a brand new one for very cheap compared to retail price. if your stock the taper won't affect you much but it will become more and more restrictive the more horse you have and if your running bigger turbos. If you have a bigger set up than stock or your OCD can't handle the taper down being there take the mid pipe of the CBE to an exhaust shop, have them cut the taper down off and weld a 3" pipe with a bigger flange on. Problem solve. Get the sexyness of the HKS exhaust with none of the drawbacks.

Holy thread revival. Yes, there's a huge difference between mild steel and stainless. Mild steel rusts easily, stainless doesnt.

The HKS Hi-Power cons

Mild steel - will rust
Over priced
Overly muffled / resonated, sounds like "weak sauce" to me.
Tapers at cat. (Not all exhausts taper at the cat connection).
Complicated mounting (unnecessary, serves no purpose)
Reduces ground clearance.
Fitment issues (resonator rubs driveshaft on IX MR's and others over time)
Poor customer service (HKS USA).
Muffler is in fact a regular Hi-Power wrapped in carbon fiber so it's not lightweight.
Only the tip is titanium.

The HKS Hi-Power pros

Quiet deep sound.
If your into ricer, nothing says ricer quite like this exhaust.
HKS fan boi's will love your selection of mods.
Easy to find deals on used ones that rubbed driveshaft.
