For as long as i can remember, at least the past 2 yrs, the shifter has had what i consider a lot of play. its very annoying and so i took the console apart to see what i can do about it. it looks like the play is created by the clearance between the ball pivot and the area it seats into. Is this common? i hope its not. the shifter has been in the car for at least 3yrs now. If i remember correctly, and im pretty sure i do, its an authority short shifter. is it possibly wear on the plastic that has created this play, or is it a poor quality shifter. i didnt have the tools to take it apart and see what else i could discover, all i had was two screwdrivers.

i took a video with my phone. any ideas what i can do to resolve this?
