3" vs 3.5" IC and fp-red
i think i'm going with the fp-red 80mm cover and injectors, i have a 3" ets core should i really sell it for a 3.5" or will i be ok?
how much will it hurt me if i use a 3" ic core?

if your goin to go bigger, might as well go 4" instead of 3.5". you'll see a nice improvement with higher boost levels by goin bigger. Meaning your intake temps will be lower.

All other things being equal: the thicker your core is, the less prone it is to heat soak. So I would say run what you already have, and if you notice irregular logs back to back, then upgrade. How much boost are you planning on running, and do you plan on keeping it on the street?

It really depends on the core. I would think ETS can best recommend a size to suit your needs.

You can run the 3.0" version, but to get all the power on the Red 450+ I would recommend going with the 3.5" version which will max out reds capabilities.
Thanks!

Michael: What is the thickest Garrett core available that you can use in an Evo FMIC application? I think that Buschur's 4.5" IC uses a Garrett core. But, can you source a 5", or 6", Garrett core? Finally, is your 6" thick core a Garrett unit?

A 6" core is way overkill and will give you a lot of pressure drop.

Garrett makes all sorts of cores. All Michael has to do is order one if he doesn't have one and I'm sure he would make you custom end tanks for it.

Sparky was not reccomending the OP to get a 6" core first off. OP don't get an ETS 4" core! Call Michael at ETS and grab yourself a ETS Garrett 3.8" core! These things are dope! I have one and I can't heat soak it It will be fine to 600+hp easy with minimal pressure drop. I like to have a large intercooler so in the spring when I build my motor I may up to a 4.5" Garrett. The Garrett cores cool so much better then normal cores. David B uses the Garrett cores in his race FMICs too and so does CBRD but ETS is cheaper by $100+. Do some research. I have seen people pick up over 20+ on switch from a 3.5" normal "Chinese" cores to the Garrett 3.8".

The largest Garrett I would recommend is 3.8", I have three on the shelf. I also have 10 of the ETS Evolution X 4.0" core on the shelfs as well. I recommend our core for a few reasons, but we can discuss that in PM or on the phone.
Thanks,
Michael

I'd say your 3" IC is good enough for the red, if the core face size is large enough.
here is some actual measurement data on 3" 530x300mm core size IC on 2.3l application with around 500hp
http://www.stcf.net/viggen/IC_vs1.gif
the red line is the cheapo 100eur china bar&plate IC the stock IC is on the top.
boost: http://www.stcf.net/viggen/IC1.gif
and airmass: http://www.stcf.net/viggen/IC2.gif
you can pretty much calculate the efficiency from that if you want.
I'd like to see the same data from 4" IC as comparison.
IC is one of those components that usually is sold without any measurement data, just some random like hp rantings, what does good for 1300hp actually stand for? How much is the IC efficiency aftear heat-soak on the airflows required for those HP figures ?

35r varient here w/ ETS 3.5in core. Pull after pull, log after log, DLL after DLL no sign of heatsoaking it, enducing knock, pulled timing or power loss PERIOD
I'm sorry I don't believe the Garrett hype
