Well, on a budget... What I did was, bought a used Red for $1000.00, got FIC Bluemax 1350 injectors for $390.00, Sold my PTE 880's for $200.00, got the FP oil line because FP says you have to $150.00, had Tobz install and re-tune for $450.00, went with new plugs and total fluid change $200. For a grand total of less then $2000.00!!! Now that was on a budget!

I picked up almost a 100WHP at 29.5 PSI on a single 255 pump. I am at less then 80% duty cycle on E-85. I have the stock bottom, head, ECU and don't plan on going up in boost till I build the motor next spring. When your ready to do it, call Tobz! He will take good care of you! Any questions PM me!

If you're on a budget, do the CBRD BBK instead. You'll end up spending about $400 less and make just as much power with better bottom-end; that's enough to do a ported exhaust manifold, o2 housing, and all new gaskets/copper washers.

You'll max out 1000cc injectors and single pump, but they'll definitely work. Do FIC 1250's and you'll have plenty of fuel.

Comparo of my car vs a friend's car, BBK vs RED:
http://www.scheides.com/gallery/evo-...6_30_2009_0011
(red line is BBK, green line is fp red)
boost plot:

So yea, no fancy oil lines or intakes needed, just a basic install kit.
I looked up your mod list and it included a ported head. Did your friend with the Red have a ported head as well?

This will not turn into "my turbo is bigger than your turbo".

The info is out there, and regardless of people wanting to tout this or that, across the board results are there for the masses.

The OP has asked for suggestions on direction for a particular build, and that's it.

It'll drag this thread light-years off topic, but aside from my head being ported (I have a VIII) vs the other car being an IX (better casting from the factory), the mods on each car are similar: cams, porting, SS O2, catless 3" TBE, IC Piping, etc etc. Main difference is my car being on alky and his being on E85, it really was a pretty level playing field.

I don't think this is true; the red is a bigger turbo and should produce higher peak whp, mod-for-mod. Really all I was saying is that if you want red power on a budget, why not look at the BBK? Used turbos aside, it is cheaper and provides a very comparable powerband when using a high-octane fuel. Heck, maybe even look at MAP's SST turbo, it's cheaper still and has gone 126mph in the 1/4 mile.

im interested in this thread too, but i wanna know WITHOUT E-85 i cant get that where I live.

So without E-85, do i need double pumper? Can I use less then 1000CC injectors? I basically dont mind the whole upgraded injectors EXCEPT I depise lumpy idle. That is also why i dont want cams.

Besides FMIC, fuel pump, injectors and obviously the turbo. What other supporting mods do u guys recommend to keep the car safe but fast. Do i need o2 housing? Do i need ported exhaust manifold? I guess if u have everything apart you might as well right? I really dont wanna do o2 housing b/c i dont wanna have a situation where i leak occurs there... omg that would suck!!!

My goal is 400 HP, it can be to the crank, would like to the wheels.

While I had all my hot bits out for my BBK build I took the opportunity to port and coat everything. I went with a coated titek o2 housing, coated/ported manifold, wrapped turbo hotside. So while you have everything out I'd port it and coat it if I were you. And don't worry about the o2 housing leaking - just get a new oem gasket.

Hell, on my own personal Evo, I've reused the OEM manifold to turbo, and turbo to O2 gaskets SOOOOOOOO many times it's not funny. At all. OE torque specs, never a single leak... ever. They are good gaskets.

^ +1 !!!!!! The oem metal gaskets are so crazy thick I couldnt believe it. I mean, for seeing such high temps over and over these things are beefy!

For the OP I guess you really wouldnt need to coat everything though if your on a budget. Porting on the other hand will be worth the extra few whp if you want to spend the dough.

FIC Bluemax! 32PSI and under... Pump gas-1150's, E-85 1350's on single pump. Over 32 PSI... You are going to need a Double Pumper! And I would move up 100CC's on each injector size. Pump 1250's and E-85 1450's
