Possible Rod Knock

ok. well i took that video after i changed the #1 plug and tightened the manifold so it wasnt as loud. but since the stud is comming out, it started to make the loud tapping noise at warm up again. I am also starting to think its one of the valves. Im going to Pull 2 degree on my Cams to see if that is the issue ( +2 - 0 degrees) both intake and exhaust. qill post updates later today.

So today i took a look at the cams. and the Exhast cam was more advanced then the Intake. Meaning at TDC exhaust was atleast a full tooth off or more. I pulled about 4 degree of timing from Exhaust side and set intake side to 0. Now i have more of a loopy idle (Normal for 272's)
Less ticking at start up, but does still Tick Hard when accelerating, and will have to retune the ecu (running rich)
So maybe the valve is hitting the Piston..... if i have some extra time i will remove the head this weekend and take a look. Hopefully the piston is not screwed because im low on funds. PERFECT TIMING. HAHA like always.

It sounded like a lifter at idle, but once you revved it, I thought differently. I've never heard a lifter get that loud... maybe if it's completely collapsed.

If you run the car with the #1 plug out and the noise goes away, it's probably a rod bearing. Without compression beating down on it, the rod will quiet down.

However, I don't think that's your problem. I think you've tapped a valve on the piston. Compression test is a good place to start. If it's low in cylinder 1, do a leak down test.

Are you running upgraded springs with those 272's? What are you revving to?

I have not tried taking out the plug and running it. never even though of doing that. but will try this weekend. I to think i have hit the valve on the Piston Also my exhuast manifold is not sealed on that side (due to the bolts) So when i tightened it as good as i could the Loud ticking was not as loud. When i start it now, it doesnt tick at all. But under acceleration when the motor is not fully warmed it ticks loudly. When warm does not tick at all, or i cant hear it.

Currently not running Springs with the 272's, will be upgrading soon with the next head (Currently in progress)
Got new 1mm over lifters in and waiting on springs to come in.
