nice. I do too much DD-stuff in mine to have an on/off type of clutch-even though the p-trim was a bit more biased that way than what I thought it would be. Good luck with yours.

I receive my Super Twin a couple of weeks ago. I bought it through MAP. I asked for a SS-Trim but it turns out that Spec doesnt make the the SS_Trim anymore for the Evo 8/9 since they arent offering them for the X. So they sent me the P-Trim instead. I originally was not ok with this but SPEC-01 assures me its drivability is just as good as the SS-Trim. Im almost done with the install. I installed SS-lines and new master. Ill let you guys know how it goes. I did drop the cross member to make the install easier. I will be sooooo pissed if I have these issues. Im installing a TRE trans as well. Again... I will be sooooooooo pissed if this trans/clutch doesnt shift like a plasma cuter through butter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did the friction surfaces look at all "cooked". If not, your problems may be elsewhere. If it does look like it's had some heat in it...

even the people who are using the spec supertwins with success say that they are a heavier unit and don't shift as fast as the light 7.25" twin disc clutches that are available do. Spec does make 3 different types of "mini" twins which are the same size as the QM/Tilton/PTT etc..

Yes, but shifting fast and dragging into first and reverse are a whole other enchilada.

I dunno.. if you're dragging going into gear in neutral, I would think that it would be dragging at 8000 rpms when you're trying to grab the next gear.

You misunderstood me... You can have a heavy clutch that "shifts slow" (on the top end), or with more effort than a lightweight unit and nothing may be "wrong". However, if you are having vehicle movement shifting into bottom gear from a standstill, something is seriously not right and needs attention. As in you are dragging discs! Follow me now?

I guess the difference is in what is defined as 'shifts slow'. I smell what you're steppin' in.. and I've heard tell its not entirely uncommon with the supertwins.

I finished up my install...
I had the peddle adjusted with 4 threads left.. I pulled out of the garage to check and see if the car moved while in gear and the clutch pushed in... It did... I took a half thread out and it didnt roll again. I took it out and warmed up the clutch prior to to doing the following. I heard that cars where rolling forward on the 2step. So after warming up the clutch. Setup the 2step up on a nice flat surface. The car did creep. I took another half thread out and viola.. no more movement. I did install a TRE trans with this clutch. Seems like everything is cool. The only thing Ive got going on out of the ordinary is:

A) When off of the clutch peddle.. the car makes a high pitched whining sound. It does it anytime im off the clutch... in gear.. out of gear, stopped or driving.. it whines. As soon as a put any kind of pressure on the peddle.. it stops.. cant figure it out. I adjust the clutch further in.. no change.. adjusted it further in.. no change. It didnt start doing this right away either.. it started like 10 minutes into my test drive. My shifting is quite notchy.. but i havent broken this gear box in so I cant blame the clutch for this.

B) My SRS light kicked on after the install... not right away... but like 15 minutes after I started the car and let it warm up.. I cant figure out that one either.

I spoke with Jeremy at Spec and he said that my clutch discs were contacting the diapragm and not releasing like they should when the clutch pedal is depressed. He actually rebuilt me a new clutch with new "custom" discs. They are 6 puck UNSPRUNG and much lighter than any discs previously offered with their clutches. He assures me that this clutch should work beautifully!! I will be selling this clutch as I already have a QM twin disc setup in my evo now as I couldn't wait for Spec to finish inspecting and building mine. I will post up pics in this thread and start a for sale thread for the Spec "custom" supertwin

here is a link to my for sale thread on the new custom built Spec Super twin. This clutch should be the answer to anyone that wants what a spec clutch "should" be. I really wish I could've waited to install this as the QM is very harsh for a Daily Driven Evo..
