Two years ago I replaced the stock clutch with the ACT HDSS and Street Flywheel kit. The decel noise did not go away. It decel noise slowly started at 400 miles on my 2003. Now with 109K, guess what happened? The decel noise just stopped! I always attributed the noise to the TOB and got used to it over the years. Now that it is GONE.....I keep thinking that it will return. 40 miles a day commuter, runs great, 6th set of A046s........what a great car. A046s are the best, hands down, worth the cost in MHO. Normal bolt ons and 272s.

its called clutch chatter man. happens with most aftermarket clutches on many cars including the evo. if u take it to a non performance shop they will tell you its a bad tob but its normal. happens in my car everyday since i got it and that was over 20k ago. clutchmasters stage 3 and lw flywheel. just learn to love it, nothing is wrong. well worth the extra holding power for a little noise.

Thank for the posts guys, I was hoping it will go away, but looks like it is the flywheel that causes this.
Basically, the lighter flywheel at some RPM frequency causes the assembly to rattle through harmonic vibration.
I'm seriously considering going back to using stock flywheel with Competition Kevlar, or Cusco twin when my funds are up again.
I do coast a lot in daily driving, and this sound is just annoying, not to mention embarrassing in the city.
Any more guys with this issue, got annoyed and switched back to stock flywheel??

It won't go away, I guarantee it. The lighter flywheel has nothing to do with it. It's called clutch chatter and like someone mentioned it's very, very, very common. You may notice some days its better, and others it'll be worse. I've had the ACT HDSS on my Evo now for over a yr, and the noise came after like 2 months of driving. It's been there ever since. Get use to it

So you are saying it happens at all gears?
In my case only in 4th and 5th gear between 40-60mph, when I let off gas pedal.
So, is it the TOB or flywheel? Thanks.

When I first bought my Evo, I thought something was wrong. I was told it was clutch chatter. I had an Exedy Single in her at the time.
I literally gave the clutch away to DRFTKNG on these boards and went with an Exedy organic and OEM flywheel to remedy this problem.
Noise is still there.
Changed exhaust hangars to Kart Boy, rattles still there.
AMS Mustache Bar Eliminator added with Whiteline diff carrier bushings, noise still there.
Bought an 04 RS transfer case and sent her out to TRE, noise still there.
Sent out my diff to TRE for a MAXX LOCK unit, noise still there.
All my tie bars are nicely spaced, and I even re tapped some of the bolts for those bars for larger bolts, ( holes were kinda stripped and the bolts were not tightening down right), noise still there.
Noise is still there....... money is not.

I currently have the Exedy twin on my car, which rattles. However, if you haven't checked the metal bracket that holds the splash guard on the front of the car that may be your issue. Mitsu thought it would be a good idea to use plastic clips on this piece as well, which come loose. I remedied the issue my putting two hex bolts to replace the plastic clips.

Could you be more specific on where this bracket is?

I have a Beatrush under tray, and the noise in my vid is not the sound of a splash guard. I wish it was though.

Yup. I'm pretty determined to figure it out too. lol
I'm gonna send out the tranny next. I actually plan on dropping EVERY THING from underneath the car and under coating it. Front and rear frames, etc. Then bolting everything up myself just to make sure.
If the noise is still there, I will raise my white flag and deal with my OCD at another time.
Got some personal issues I gotta take care of first.

Revvin9k, thanks for posting the video.
I have basically, the same rattles.
My front undercover is a little loose, and missing some screws.
I see some metal to metal contact under there where they are connected.
I'm going to try to fix this first, to see if that is the problem.
But, I think it may be just coming from inside the clutch housing.
I was planning to go back to stock flywheel, but you said it did not fix the noise?
I did not have this for 70K+ on the stock, and now this. Pretty frustrating.

Dont mean to thread jack but I guess this is sort of same topic.
When you accelerate slowly from a dead stop, during the clutch slippage time and you get this wheel hop feeling (also feels like the engine is jerking), is this considered clutch chatter as well?
