oil pump walked in housing

hey, i just had a issue where i got a odd noise and a bad oil leak. i tore the covers and tbelt off and found that the oil pump gear had walked toward the crank. has anyone else had this problem and is their any fixes so this wont happen again. i will post more pics as soon as i take it out. sorry for the bad cell phone pics.

the upper left side is where it rolled and the lower right now has a gap that the oil comes out.

it wasnt tight past what it should be. ive done alot of tbelts and ive done them to tight before and you get a bad vibration. car was fine. ive done this belt so many times it only took me 15 mins to take everything off and find the leak.

How crazy is that! Doesn't that balance shaft have another bearing on the inside?
How many miles did you have on what oil pump?

about 70k on the pump. and i dont have the balence shafts. i also dont think it would make a difference as the shaft is on the next gear above, that is driven by the one that walked.

So you used a stub shaft and you want to know why it ate through the case?

Because you used a stub shaft, period.

^ How many of this type of failures have you seen? I am not questioning your conviction. This is the first I have seen.
Guess I should keep an eye on my stub shaft too.

if this is true than their would be more cases like this and no one would sell the sub shafts. do you think its possible that maybe the pump went bad?

AMS proved stub shafts can do this, check out their balance shaft

"replacing the front balance shaft with a stub shaft will increase the chances of oil pump failures. This is likely caused by eliminating the support provided by the rear bearing journal. A stub shaft allows the oil pump gears to push apart and wear into the aluminum pump. Aluminum that is being worn away will enter the clean oil stream and contaminate the engine bearings. Eventually this can result in the oil pump seizing."

see not stubby
