well, at the price of the kit for the ams balence eliminator. ill give the stub another chance. with a new housing im sure ill be ok. i know not everyone uses and ams kit and its 300 with no core. if it happens again ill try the ams one.

Oh really? I'll be sure to tell all the DSMers who have been running stub shafts for well over a decade without any issues, including myself on every single engine I've ever had up to the EVO.

BS!!
DSMers have been using the stub shaft FOREVER. The only time it would be of concern is on a high rpm engine.

So you walked the stubshaft and joined the club of tens of others who have done the same thing, come to the forum to ask for advice, only to put a stubshaft back in. Maybe next time you'll get some of that metal in your engine bearings, oil cooler and lifters costing you thousands of dollars before you just fix the real issue.
I swear I don't understand some people.
These are not DSMs.

Maybe you should tell me, of course after all of the DSM's I've personally owned we would have no experience in this issue.

amazing it must be the alum or the clearance on the evo pumps. maybe the type of oil or something.
it is clearly only an issue with evo pumps.
they are about 100 dollars cheaper i dont know if that has anything to do with it or what. but i'm going to my machine shop tomorow with a balance shaft to see if they can reproduce this. i dont have time to send things out at this time.
i really really wish i would have known this earlier, the motors not in the car yet tho. i thank the first guy that posted the ams kit. possibly saved this motor wow. thanks. all other evo motors i ever did were at dealerships so they used balance shafts.

The timing belt pulls up on the stub and with no axial brace in the bshaft bearing location to keep it from pulling up diagonally, it will wear out the case.

i'm sure this is all correct, proven and tested.
how ever it would always have some sort of deflection.... whats the bearing clearance for that shaft? could someone take the length from the bearing to the gear and see what the total movement would be, with oil pressure, and with out oil pressure.
i think its more of a harmonic balance issue at high rpm than anything.
this shaft even the modifyed one isnt locating the gear to a perfect center, i do believe how ever it is "dampening" its movement.
i'm not knocking it at all, i do believe its very injenious and i kinda always felt wierd about using the g61 shaft... even tho that motor used it stock.
