Picked up the Evo this afternoon! The clutch is grabbing very quickly. I need to do a little adjustment on the pedal. It's engaging a little low for my taste. Cams sound great at idle. Can't wait to tune it tommorow

are you doing a pump gas tune to show what gains you make from the cams alone or are you going to tune for e85 at the same time and then we wont know what did what
looking foward to results

as expected on 93 octane, the cams or fmic alone don't do much without the other. However, e85 woke it back up considerably. Kevin will post the data soon

I know y'all have been waiting for this and here it is.... I'll take you threw my weekend. I picked up the Evo Friday after work where I had GSC S2 cams + springs installed as well as an Exedy Twin HD clutch. I went ahead and got them to replace the timing belt, water pump, tensioner, and balance shaft belt too. I had talked to Exedy a few hours before about breaking in the clutch and they said that they normally recommend a 500 mile break in period but that I would be alright with 100 miles and a lot of shifting. I stopped by Mellon's after leaving the shop to quickly check out the tune and adjust the idle. It had some serious lope idling ~600-800 rpms but it felt like it was wanting to die, especially when taking off from a stop. We bumped it up to ~900-1000 rpms to make it easier on the car and it still sounds great. We opened Evoscan and saw that the Ecu was having to add ~12-14 on the low trim which means there was definitely a lot more air coming through there at idle. I then spent my Friday afternoon/night putting quite a few miles on my clutch.
Saturday, time to get down to business. I got to Mellon's ~9 and did a quick boost leak test before heading out. Since I was already on 93 we did that tune first. High temp for the day was low 90's with 70% humidity. What we found was that the cams by themselves don't really gain much. We figured the stock FMIC would probably hold this up and it did. We tried tuning the cams on the same boost as before (26 psi) with a lot of timing and didn't gain much and we tried tuning the cams with more boost (28.5 psi) and less timing and it seemed to be the way to go. We tried maxing out the ebc and it would only let us go to 29.3 psi @ 100% wg duty cycle but it was inconsistent because the solenoid was wiggin out so we lowered it to 93%. Here are the results:
Cams vs. No cams
A gain of 11hp and 24tq. As you can see cams by themselves don't do much. Thats why its recommended to do Cams and a FMIC at the same time. One without the other doesn't do much. Mellon said he's had customers in the past that usually peeter out ~335-340hp by doing a FMIC instead of cams. We normally do a G-tech run after each tune but with the results being dismal and still not enough miles on the clutch we decided not to. Pretty good gains over stock though, its up 89hp and 120tq
Cams vs. Stock
We went and got some lunch and headed back to the house. We pumped out the rest of my 93 and put in the e85 . Headed back out on the same boost 28.5 psi. Let me just say e85 is the ****. It was holding timing like nobody's business. Here are the results:
e85 vs. 93 oct
A gain of 49hp and 37tq on the same boost!! Simply amazing. Once the tune was finished it was time for a G-tech run. I figured what the hell, either the clutch was going to hold or not. I wanted to see what this new power would do. Here they are the results:
60' 1.70
0-60 3.23
1/8 7.56 @ 92.06
1/4 11.83 @ 115.39
Quick comparison with the previous g-tech data:
01 stock
60' 2.15

1/8th 9.13 @ 78.78
1/4 14.14 @ 99.12

1/8 8.30 @ 85.62
1/4 12.99 @ 105.41
03 filter, mbc, tbe, fp, tune
60' 1.79
0-60 3.86
1/8 7.93 @ 88.50
1/4 12.37 @ 111.44
04 PTE 1200 no times
05 filter mbc exhaust fp tuned gsc s2 tuned 93oct 28.2psi no times
06 filter mbc exhaust fp tuned gsc s2 tuned e85 28.2psi
60' 1.70
0-60 3.23
1/8 7.56 @ 92.06
1/4 11.83 @ 115.39
DLL 383/384
11's! Another good point to show for e85 vs 93 is the injector duty cycle. With my PTE 1200cc injectors:
IDC was 93% on 93 octane pre-PTE 1200
IDC was 50% on 93 octane pre-cams
IDC was 51% on 93 octane
IDC was 65% on E85
I've got a lot of room to grow which is a good thing because I wanted that. Also the slight starting problem I had is now perfected. Mellon worked his magic on that. Here are the results over stock on E85:
A gain of 138hp and 157tq. I have to give it up to Mellon for another awesome job with the tuning. Next round of mods will be a FMIC and IC pipes.
**Stay tuned for links to a vid of the idle and 1/4 mile run.
