Royal Purple is junk. Their additive package is good initially, but wears out in as little as 1k miles (or more like 2k miles for "normal" street driving).
I've personally stuck with Mobil 1 10W-30 in my Evo. Its a proven oil, it protects well, its great for extended drain intervals, its easy to find, and its fairly cheap (5 qt jug for $24 @ Walmart).

This is the one of the biggest questions, that has created the most arguments among car enthusiasts and racers since the beginning of racing. Yet, the only way to prove an oil is to test and test and test and then test again, if your motor blows on royal purple but would not blow on "X" brand oil then the oil company is at fault for you blown motor....good luck proving it. (No Offense) You need to pick an oil you feel comfortable running, test it in your car, if your still comfortable with it, run it, and run it, and run it, until it fails you and proves you wrong. (which may never happen)
I have had cars ranging from a built turbo Audi A4 Quattro, Type-R powered civic, 347 Stroker Mustang, 1996 Cobra, 383 stroker GMC and in every car I've used different oils. I did my research on the right oil viscosity, weight, and proven brand before I chose an oil for each unique an different motor. AMS has great oils, Royal purple has proven cars running there synthetics, and Mobil 1 cannot be denied. Just do your research on the site because I am sure Evolutinm.net has some great threads on this question. so SEARCH. -Travis (soon to be evo owner). GL
