Help me decide if to upgrade to the HTA 86 or not
Hey ya'll,
I've been trying to decide for quite some time if it would be worth it to send my HTA 3582r to Forced Performance to get it converted to the HTA 3586r.
I know the basics, It's supposed to put out 40+ more HP, but spool around 200 RPM's slower.
But what about the torque it will make compared to the 3582? is there a decent difference in that too?
also, if anyone who has had both could speak out on which one you like better tha'd be great.
the main purpose of my car is a fast street car. I do go to the track prolly 5-8 times per year though.
My main fear is shortening my powerband because I have a stroker I cannot rev quite as high as a built 2.0 liter
any info ya'll have would be helpful!
thanks,
John

If you arent maxing out the turbo, its not really worth it. What else you have done for performance?

no, I plan on having a map for the AEM EMS standalone for 93 octane and then another map for Q16 race gas.

Gotcha. If you push your 82 pretty hard and need more, go for the upgrade. If you push it hard on pump, you may want to think about going with meth, because 30-40whp isnt going to be a huge difference, but if you run meth you can probably get 50+whp more from the 82 on pump gas.

I am pretty sure that my current mods will push the 82 to the edge.....with less aggressive mods I made 556 on buschur's dyno last year with c16.
that setup was with a .63 a/r hotside, different turbo manifold, different intake manifold, different exhaust.

It will have no effect on your power band
I think the main issue is how the charge fits within your budget

So in your opinion would it be worth it for me to conver to the HTA 86???
the major changes to my car are:
1. converted from AMS HTA 35R turbo kit w/.63 5-bolt hotside to the New Buschur front facing turbo kit w/.82 garrett hotside
2. converted from the HKS hi-power exhaust to the Buschur exhaust with bullet muffler.
3. converted from the AMS VSR intake manfold w/ported 65mm TB to the Driven innovations w/hypertune 77mm TB
I'm thinking those changes would max out the 82, so I'm thinking I would go with the 86. BUT whats your opinion?

I have had both, i will say the 3582 would be a good choice if you plan to stay around 600. If you want to run it harder I would go with a 3586, I love my 3586 spool isn't much different and hits hard as hell. I'm on a high compression stroker though so both turbos are fun as hell to me! I made 651/560 at 34psi on a Land and sea mustang type dyno. I'm using a T4 .58 which at anything above 40psi proved to be to small. I'm in the process of installing a .68 now, yea if you do upgrade, get the .82 T3 housing aswell to make it worth it.

how high is your compression on your 2.3 liter?
Mine is pretty low, it's 8.5:1
I kinda wish I had gone with at least 8.8:1 or even better 9.0:1

one of the buschur cars went from the HTA 82 to 86 and spool was nearly yhe same and made a fair wack more power up top, search in the dyno section its in there.
edit: found it for you

There is no correction factor on our dyno. I don't believe in it. The car makes what it makes on a particular day.
