Turbo RPM! Good Tech Question

How many RPM will a 35R Turbo spool at producing max output?

Re-phrased what's the MAX RPM for a 35R Turbo? and what are the conditions for that RPM?

This is what I would like to know:
Rough Example: 6500 motor RPM?, 34 lbs of boost?, turbo RPM 130,000 at Full boost?

I'm just asking to see if anyone knew I don't want to install, anything like this on my car.

A buddy at work who's a phyicist is absolutly amazed that my 4 banger makes 555 whp and that I'm going to 800 whp.

He was asking because back in the day his turboed 63, and 65 corvair's produced 185 whp, and his turbos spooled at 80,000-90,000 RPM.

He's assuming that my 35R turbo is spooling at 90,000-150,000 rpm at max boost.

He is just wondering.... Scientists? I have no idea?

Your buddy's Corvair had an old, inefficient turbo that produced far less air pressure and relatively high intake air temperature with no means of cooling the compressed air.

Your turbo setup delivers much greater thermal efficiency, delivers much greater air density (boost pressure), and your engine is more mechanically efficient and less detonation resistant.

It's all simple physics.

We fully understand that. That's why the newer turbo's should be able to run more effeciently at higher RPM's? correct? Were not directly comparing the old and new. Were just trying to find out the normal operating RPM at Full boost of the 35R.

Yes, but my point is the turbo is just one factor. If you bolted your 35R onto the Corvair engine, it will not generate the same specific output, and that has nothing to do with the turbo.

The 35R has a dual ball bearing center cartridge and a water cooled jacket, and can turn well in excess of 100,000 rpm before falling out of its efficiency islands.

Thanks. Your point is fully taken. Were not intending to install my Turbo on anything actually it's for sale. We were only wondering how many RPM the 35R turbo ran at during it's max output.

I added in the info for the Corvair's turbo only to display the difference between the old and new turbos.

100,000 RPM is wapping fast!

Looking at the compressor map for a GT3582, it looks like it spins up to about 117K. Big turbos spin slow, small turbos fast.

GT1241 goes over 220k
