need a pic of evo 8 viscous
I am trying to figure out how far a car can be drivin on a broken center diff and I have been told I could drive for a while (to get it to the shop only 150 miles)
I know for a fact you can not do this in a dsm or a 3kgtvr4 so I need to figure out how the viscous in our cars works?
Is it the same principal as a dsm? where there is a viscous coupler?
A pic would really help.

Why can I never get a straight answer to any "tech" questions?
Someone has to know, How about a point in the right direction of a forum where I could potentially get this answered?

Not very far the center diff is just a typical ring and pinion with a diff and spider gears when they are broken or out of adjustment or the incredible dumbest mechanics on the planet put tranny fluid in a diff and ruin the ring and pinion instead of putting diff fluid or redline shockproof.

I didnt read all the posts. I have had the transfer out myself at least three times myself and helped a few others. If its a whine you can drive for a little bit but wouldnt reccomend it for safety sake. Had mine lock up on I95 wasnt fun. I have a whole bunch of parts from my old one tomorrow i can try and take some pics if you need?

I actually made it 186 miles to the shop with out blowing the viscous today.
The front diff in the t-case was blown to bits.
I just did not want to damage the viscous which I think it is ok since I never even slipped it at all.

Sorry, didn't see this thread earlier. Don't know if this really answers your question. It is (dealer) non-servicable so you may not see any more than this unless someone is just curious and tears down a broken one, or maybe they are modding them IDK.
had all the text legible but the photo upload resized some
IDK if it's viscous, think it's an electric clutch and mechanical gears.
basically the mechanical planetary helical gear set controls slip front left and right, and the electric ACD clutch controls slip front to rear.
IMHO, what separates Mitsu from the other manufactures, to build something this hi-tech for an affordable price
their R&D division must be like wizard central

Did you only have 2wd?
did it make noise on turns?
which wheels were still being driven?

Nice little tip at the end of the article, pulling the ebrake turns off ACD. So just pull it one click to turn the warn light on. Know on the X you can turn off TCL, but on the IIIV you can only change modes with the switch. (see you made me learn something)
There's actually two fluids to service the transfer case. Had either one ever been changed before it blew? Not sure what the maint chart recs. Think the TC is 30K.
