Lock the center diff

Does anyone know of a company that sells a part to lock the center diff so we can take out the front driveshaft and convert to RWD only? I know you can get this for the Subarus, but I think they are also available for the EVOs somewhere.

The diff we need to lock is a EVO 7, but probably the same as 8.

The subaru has a RWD transmission so its easy to do.. I dont think it can be done on an evo w/o turning the motor around and using a RWD tranny..

This may be a little OT, but I read somewhere that there's a modification to switch the FR torque balance from 50/50 to 30/70. Do you guys know anything about that?

Welding it sounds to be an easy solution.
Call RMR and ask Rhys if that is what they did.

I looked into this once. As I recall Millen wants around $5,000 just for the parts. I'll try to find the email. Way too rich for my wallet.

The other problem with making an EVO into RWD is the huge amount of weight over the front wheels. A RWD EVO makes a Mustang or Carmaro look like a better balanced car.

YouTube it.

We just need it to dyno an Opel with EVO drivetrain since we have only 2WD dyno. 5000USD for the parts is not even considered. Guess we need to rent another dyno for the job then.

No, they actually machine some kind of adapter, or fitting, or whatever, that makes the EVO into a RWD. I'm assuming it is simply a replacement piece that no longer provides any power to the front wheels. Not sure if it actually has a proper name, since it is basically a one-off that they will produce on special order, as I understand it.

Drives: 2005 GTO 525RWHP- and still missing the Evo.

it has been done. look at the evo 9 in the toyko drift movie (yeah, i just refernced that damn movie) They were able to do the "adapter kit" to remove the front shafts. I only remember vaugely what was done to it, but i do know that it kept the evo engine and trans.

I'm sure your best, easiest, cheapest, and safest option will be to find an AWD dyno.

You can also "roughly" approximate the horsepower using a calculator if you know the 1/4 mile trap time and trap speed here -- http://www.dsm.org/tools/calchp.htm

Good luck.

I saw an article in a magazine a couple years back, where they said how to do it yourself for way cheaper than the Millen thing. The problem was that it did not include the parts to allow more steering angle and it left the front axles etc. in place even though they were not connected. That should not matter if you are just popping it on the dyno. Try emailing import tuner and the other magazines like that, I forgot which one it was.

As for changing the split ratio like somebody else asked, you have to change the gears in the diff. There is a company that sells the gears, I think Cusco but I may be wrong. I am sure they are pretty pricey
