Dogbox or something else?

I am searching for a bulletproof transmission and transfer for my EVO IX 6MT HTA86.
My evo is my dd and I use it for a few street-drag races (not drag strips) also.
I realize that I have to go with 5MT.
I wish to put straight cut gears from PPG.
I checked sheptrans and I was wondering if a Dogbox is the transmission for me.
I want 1st-2nd gear longer than the OEM
3rd-4th like OEM
5th a little shorter than OEM.
A friend that have a Subaru Impreza STI said that the best transmission for me is a PPG staight cut gear set with synchros... but that is not an option for Evo's.
So I do not know what should I choose and buy...
A dogbox?
A shep-built 5MT tranny?
Something else?

You don't need a dog box trans..go with the bushwacker trans. Ask shep he'll tell you what to get.

As someone who had a car with a dog-box (GTX rally car), I can agree 100% with the other posters that you don't want one for the street. They will need servicing more often than a stock gearbox, and the noise will drive you nuts. To me it was music to my ears, but I only drove the car during competition.

Today I will decide which of these two I will order.
Probably I will go with a new 5MT shep T/C stage 3 with ACD and a new shep transmission stage 2 with full option except 4.11 final drive and a shep conversion kit.
Do I need anything else?
I am think to have the 1st gear longer.
2-3-4 OEM and 5 a little shorter.
What do you thing about the gear ratios?

pretty sure that shep uses PPG gears in his dogbox, sounds like that is what you are going to want to go with. I would have sure then he can fit in a 5 gear as well, drving every where in 4th gear with straight cut gears would get annoying

Does the shep transmission gears has any difference form the OEM gears?
Is it just Mitsubishi gears?
Why is this transmission more powerfull from a 5MT OEM transmission?
Any gear set treatment?
Who many whp can the stage 2 shep tranny handles?

Might wanna just look around and try to get a blown 5 speed cheap and send out for a full rebuild instead of buying one, you'll probably save way more money that way. To my knowledge trans use the stock gears but the shimming is what makes the trans support more hp. Stage 2 probably wont be necessary for 35R car, I had an Evo 9 5 speed converted from 6 speed but I blew the trans missing a gear at hi RPM on a power shift attempt. Currently using a Devo Evo 8 trans rebuilt with longer 4th gear with a few other options and no problems for quite some time now. As long as you don't power shift or miss gear nasty in high RPM's trans will last for a long time not needing all the options offered

And you don't want a Dog Box thats for sure not for a daily driver
