hta 86 with drivetrain questions....

I plan on running the hta86 turbo kit, with shep trans and shep transfer case with quaife lsd. What worries me is first launch on stock drivetrain and snapping a cv axle or destroying the diff. Do you think im over cautious about this? Im trying to keep the build plans but i do not want to spend the 4,000 at the driveshaft shop for additonal parts ie axles, 2pc driveshaft. Should i factor this in or do you think if i bumped my plans back down to the hta35 i wouldnt have as much of a worry?

No worries, tons of guys run high horsepower and dont have diff or axle problems.

Edit: What turbo kit are you going with? AMS, ETS, BR?

Um if you launch it with stock axels and your pushing high torque numbers your axels will break, maybe not the first time but soon enough.

Here's a video of a buddy of mine here in CO. AMS built 2.3 HTAGT35R stock axels

Damn, thats quite a launch. With 500+whp, I dont doubt the axles would break with a launch like that. If you are goin with the Shep trans and the whole package, you might as well spend the $2k and get upgraded axles and have no second thoughts when youre on the drag strip.

Launching on the street is a bit different, there isn't VHT being sprayed and it's not as sticky. John ( the guy in the video) has about 500 Ft lbs of torque. So yes on the strip and possible even on the street you will break your axels.

It's too much for the stockers to take. he just didn't break his axels either. He bent valves, T/C were all trashed.

Do it once, do it right.

How can you blame them? Subaru is the best, everyone knows that.

stock axles here. 1.6x 60fts on street tires and 1.4x 60fts on slicks. ~50 passes at the track this past summer.

The power isn't the main killer of drivetrain parts, its wheel hop. When you start shock loading the axles by wheel hopping (like in the above video), that's when stuff breaks.

Run slicks when you go to the track and preload the drivetrain using the e-brake. This will ensure less shock to your drivetrain. You may also want to look into a two-piece driveshaft with an aluminum rear section to help absorb more of the shock.
I will be running a 2.3L on the HTA86 as well.
