I'd rather drive an evo, that has a lot of weight pulled out of it, then a heavy evo that hasn't been "hacked" or "gutted". I think it all depends on how well it is done.
Let's say you just totally strip, hack, cut, and pull everything from an Evo. Proper shops in the UK do this all the time for Time Attack cars. They install a cage, spray the whole chassis, and put it back together. Now all you have to do is make sure the interior and dash is put back in and voilla. I'd much rather drive the much lighter Evo than the heavier one.
I don't understand the gutted tin can thing. Lighter is better, for both circuit and drag. You can have a gutted tin can but have a flawless looking interior.
The things that make a car "streetable" are engine / exhaust noise, ease of use of clutch, suspension setup, heat management, etc. Tilton plus 3" open exhaust and stiff suspension is not exactly a grocery getter.

crcain, nobody is arguing that lighter isn't better...we all know how it improves just about every aspect of the cars acceleration, handling, braking etc...

Well let's just say Emery puts the back the interior just as it was after the lightening. Do you still consider that "hacked up" in the derogatory sense of the phrase?

It may seem like it to you, But in my eyes its turning the heaviest evo (SSL) into an RS with a carbon fiber roof.

no, I don't think anything he's doing is permanent or so bad for the car that it's going to be ruined. and just to be clear if I had a drag only car I'd be doing the same thing. I'm not against it. I guess it depends on your definition of "hacked up". I really don't care to get into that conversation as I don't have time to argue about every individual piece of the car

good point and like I said, I don't mean to sound like I have a problem with what you're doing, that's not the case at all. I was just saying in the nicest way possible that you said you weren't 'hacking up" the car but then turned around and removed all kinds of stuff

In STM's defense, the word "hack" or "hacking" in the car enthusiast world is a nasty word. Almost like a hack-job of wiring/hacking up the interior.
I think STM is taking out weight in a necessary/clean way, no hacking going on!
Dan
