E85 vs Meth?

I was wondering what is better E85 or Meth? I'm currently using a Meth Kit and was debating in getting rid of it and just using E85 instead.

Anyone know the pros and cons between the two? Tia

I can't speak from experience but I would expect it would boil down to availability of the E85 in your area. I think if I had the choice I would choose E85. I've heard meth lines can block and cause problems, headaches to install, finding a good source of meth, etc....

Maybe the tephra v5 mod with the ability to switch from e85 to 91-93 octane.

A couple things that I can think of off the top of my head:

- E85 Tunes out to around 105-110 octane
- Meth Injection I have seen quoted up to 120 octane
- Must run larger injectors for E85 or double pumper depending on setup
- More consistent mixture when tuning for E85
- E85 can change down to E70 depending on the season/location which could have a big effect on your tune. You can get as high as E98 in some locations.
- E85 is cheaper per gallon the 93 oct, but gets worse gas mileage
- Depending on your area E85 may not be readily available so fill ups could be a hassle, especially if you take the Evo on a road trip.
- Meth can be corrosive to metal and thin out your oil
- Need failsafes for meth injection to prevent engine failure
- E85 seems to spool turbos a bit quicker providing better low end torque.

I personally run meth injection, but have become interested in the E85 craze. Just waiting for more stations to offer it up.

Note: Meth injection won't create anywhere near the equivalent of 120 octane. E85 will be superior octane-wise in every respect.

What would have a superior cooling effect?

E85, without a doubt.

Why?

Ethanol and Methanol are quite close in their combustion properties.

The difference is that E85 is 85% ethanol. One cannot even approach 85% of the total fuel charge with a meth injection kit - not even half that figure.

E85 is superior to methanol injection.

So E85 is far superior then that of a Meth kit due to the fact of higher octane level rating?

My concern on E85 is that, supposedly not all E85 are created equal as in different mixture of ethanol at different gas stations?

I ran a meth kit and have since converted to E-85. I make more power with the E-85 and I have the peace of mind of not worrying about my meth kit failing. I'd vote for the E-85 if you have it available.

My current setup is GT35R, stock block, s1 cams, ARP head bolts and want to run about 30psi. Do I need a double fuel pump, adjustable fuel pressure regulator and what size fuel injector would you guys suggest........880cc or 1000cc?

I read it somewhere that ANYTHING from FP Red and above, u GONNA NEED 1200cc AND a double pumper, just to be safe. (Forgot from what PSI though)

Yes you do need a double fuel pump and even 1000cc's could get maxed out with e85 on a 35r.
