To Stroke or Not to Stroke

Sorry if everyone's already read this paper but I found it to be one of the best written, most technical documents out there.

I humbly suggest it as a sticky.

Drives: 03 Dandelion Yellow EVO8 (7.5), 06 Land Rover LR3 HSE,

whoa

now that's enuff info to corner the market & build motors that are turnkey 200k mile reliable as well as V8 fast.

it does kind of back the argument the v8 guys use: more displacement means fewer revs to make the same power which equals a longer lasting engine. i'm sure if a Veyron had a V8 making the same power as that 16cyl it theoretically would last 1/2 as long.

i'm surprised no one has taken 2 4G63's & made a V8 to silence some of the domestic haters.

torque wins drag races & high rpm wins top speed mph shootouts so how do we get BOTH?

wow that was a lot of good information but I'm still stuck as far as what to do now.

It seems like 2.1 stroker is the way to go....but there are barely any evo's with them.

This section in a formal report would list recommendations for the reader based on the
facts presented in the body of this document and conclusions that follow from the facts.
But this paper is for the DSM tuners audience. No recommendations here. Not by me.
Your Mileage May Vary.

Changing the stroke of the 4G63 engine from 88 mm to 100 mm changes the nature of
the engine. Whether the nature of the stroker is ‘better’ is strictly a personal opinion.

DSM tuners are invited to read this document as an aid in understanding what will most
closely meet your individual goals.

Or, if the equations and charts are just too much information the three-step analysis used
by the author might be simpler.

1. Hmmm torque good.
2. Me stroke Talon.
3. Make tires happy.

Happy tuning.

haha

I downloaded this a while back...great info. I will be adding more "real" information based on "real" analysis to this same topic shortly. I'll post it up when available.

I'm confused. The author mentions friction losses; does he mean the losses due to friction or the lost of friction? I'm guessing the the losses due to friction?
