Martin, do you think that the Tomei 280's could be used on the street? And would they be harsh on the valvetrain?

i like the GSC s3 the best i think. little better spool and looks smoother than the tomei280 but just a little lower peak power. those tomei280's are beastly! both of those cams are crazy... making over 75hp gains.
i was looking at the charts and i love what you have done, but it made me wonder about 2 things.... i think it would help to see the "AVERAGE HP" even tho most people always ignore that... but i think it would help people decide... and also i think showing the TORQUE would be key.
awesome stuff but like i said would like to see
- Torque
- Average HP on pulls.
Thanks ~

for what it's worth I have a customer on the Tomei 280's and stock ECU idling just fine so I wouldn't let that scare anyone off.

THE TEST IS OVER AND DONE WITH! It was for Turbo magazine and is complete and over with.
If a cam you'd like to see isn't on the list, like Cosworth, Revolver, JUN or Works, it won't be added. And even if it was, they would have to re-do the base test with stock cams again in order for it to be relevant.
Thanks for the test Marin, much appreciated, but I'd still like to see some torque curves!

I'm surprised the HKS 272 did that well, I have to assume my HKS 280's are a little better and that isn't bad for one I've been spinning to 8500 on the stock springs and retainers.
I just bought the Buschur BF 272's with springs/retainers etc... I wonder where they fall into this list.

I don't want to sound like a dumbass but I still don't know what you guys mean by "spec"ing the cams. Can someone please explain this to me. Are we talking about cam gears? PLEASE EXPLAIN I want to understand lol.

When you buy cams, you (should) get a cam card. This tells you what valve events happen at what point in the crank rotation. If you check this with a degree wheel and dial indicator and find that the cam specs are not what is claimed on the card, the cam is out of spec. What Martin showed is that the BC cams are typically out of spec.
If a cam is out of spec, one can adjust it with cam gears to bring it to what is printed on the card (if that is where he wants to set it), assuming the cam lobe centerlines are all off by the same margin. If they are not, there will be a real problem.

So the only ones that were out of spec were the BC's, which mean they basically require cam gears right? Thank you for explaining I think I understand now. So people with GSC S2 for instance have theirs installed exactly like AMS since they are in spec.

That's more or less the long and short of it. The most desirable scenario is the one whereby when cams are installed straight up, they match what's on the cam card. Not because that necessarily gives the best results for the specific application, but because knowing the correct starting point is invaluable if one is going to make intelligent suggestions as to where to adjust the cam gears. And of course, if the cams are off spec, one can only guess what that is doing to the power curve.
