What have you seen that makes you think meth? Just curious as to why you came to this conclusion. I am playing devils advocate here.

Tell me about it. I already begged Chad to let my crew and I come up to his shop so we can steal all of his magic and ideas.

Definitely an easy fix. 12 pack of beer, couple hours w/ the welder, and motor is patched up and ready to go

But seriously, the crate motor looks so pretty just sitting there..

Have you ever heard of the word facetious? Chad was joking about about that becasue the oil and coolant misxed due to the giant hole in the block. Come on, no one is that stupid.

To all the haters blaming the owner and meth use,

First off. Have a little sympathy. This guy has to buy a brand new engine and have it put in. Do you have any idea what the bill is for that?

Second. I know the owner well and this car is cared for better than 99% of the Evos on this board. I am betting that this was a manufacturing flaw. VIP picked up on the same thing I saw. The oil pump is not connected to the balence shaft. I wonder if that is becasue it blew a chunk of balence shaft out of the block and ripped it out or if it broke first. Judging from the location of the hole, it almost looks like the balence shaft broke which would be a strange failure. I would like to know if the timing belt was intact since this drives that shaft.

Chad, please give us your analysis of the failure. Inquiring minds are dying to know

Crate engine 5500
IX Wiring Harness 850 the plugs on the ECU are different
AEM ECU or use a stock 9 ecu.

We switched out the 8 motor in the EvoM Project car for a 9 crate motor, well we made it a 2.2L with a 61mm turbo before we threw it back in the install isnt really hard. one plug from the tranny harness to the main harness needed to be changed, and the oil pressure sensor need to be extended and relocated. its really an easy deal.

Al,

it looks as if the alky mix wasnt mixed properly.... using poor quality, or mixing with regular water... etc

well, it could have been a few things..

but... if the rod went, in the method it did, it could have taken out the balance shaft and oil pump...

there are holes in the front AND back of the block.. and the oil pan was dented.... obviously it took some force regardless...

the point of the thread was truly... that...

its pretty awesome we all have access to the ix crate motors right now, i may purchase one or two to have here for future use....

Cheers, the motor is back in the car...

Where did you get the crate motor at that price from?

That's not necessarily an alchy issue, (of course if the car had alchy it would be possible) Reason I say that is because I have been witness to an Evo 8 with 32k with basic mods (272's, turbo back, intake) and have seen the excact same failure but with #3 piston coming out so say HI. I could stick my hand completely thru both sides of the block with out touching it. Rod failure was found to be the root cause.
