Aquamist Large Pump Meth Kit - review and tuning notes

Big props top Richard L from Aquamist for giving me world class tech support and help with the install and confiuration of the Aquamist large sureflow pump meth injection system

The amazing thing about this system is how much superior it is to a progressive boost based injection system

This kit uses injector duty cycle to refrence as load for the alchy injection so you get a totally linear smooth furl map and its very easy to tune

Bascially this is the best kit I have seen or worked with to date - I give it ten thumbs up

Low level indicator and adjustable fail safes complete the package - I loved thing this amazing unit

Bear in mind its a $900 product and it will take at least 4 - 5 hours to properly install

The car in question here is a Evo IX with a 20g turbo and cams regular Buschur Stage III mods etc

The stock Evo IX bov was leaking over 26 psi so we crashed it slightly and the boost came up a bit - this was as far as we could go until the customer gets the Forge RS adjustable bov

I just wanted to add some new data - the customer came back for some test pulls with 5 psi less peak boost and you can see that alothough the tq is significantly lower the whp is almost the same and thios is with 5 psi less

The car was running real good on its return to the dyno for a check up

Hallelujah, Al finally sees the light . It's about time you used a real water/alcohol system. I can still remember that look you gave me years ago when I mentioned the name Aquamist to you when you first tuned my Evo. BTW, I'm still using that same Aquamist system over 5 years and counting without any issues (previously used on my Eagle Talon).

The aquamist has certainly won me over for sure

The issue is how many people can pay the higher price and deal with the vastly more complicated install

Its worth every penny IMHO but may not fit in everone's budget

You get what you pay for...

every component, from the custom spec'd shurflo/aquamist pump, the amazing high speed valve that is capable of pulsing at 250 times a second, the flow sensing failsafe, fuel injector mirroring water/methanol injection...et al

and the peace of mind running it...priceless

You could probably assemble your own kit for much less and still have an adequate fail safe system. I built my own a few years ago and it did just fine. cost about a 1/4 of that price. it was a dual stage setup which also had an acumulator to pull stress off pump. Also had fail safe switches and indication lights of when each solenoid opened and when alchy level was low.

Just an idea. That dyno plot is sexy btw

There are a lot of kits out there SMC - SNOW - Cooling MIST etc - all of which work progressive off boost with basically the pump operating on various rates in relation to the boost pressure of the car and the alcohol being send down a hose into a jet

Dont get me wrong all of these kits work decently

This system type has two main problems

#1 - Since our cars (with stock or 20G turbos) start off at high boost down low and taper down as the rpms increase you wind up with a pecuilar looking fuel map which does not match the VE of the engine but rather the boost curve of the turbo

# 2 In many cases the pumps are in the back of the car and there is a significant delay to when the flow actually reaches the jet which is hard to tune for


The Auqamist kits solves these issues by doing the following

- The pump is always on and supplying pressure when the car is running - it has an accumilator that holds a constant 125 psi

- There is a high speed valve which is akin to a fuel injector which pulses to have precise control over the amount of alcohol being sprayed

- The load reference is duty cylcle so you wind up with a very linear and smooth fuel map that mirrors the engine's VE not your turbo's boost holding capacity


In addition

The new aquamist units can handle 100% meth - (older units had seal issues) and also they all have not only a built in flow gauage (very helpful) but they also have over and under flow boost cut protection built on board


I repeate - this equipment is very costly - but if you want simply the best nothing else comes close

No doubt you can make yor own kit if that is your bag

I doubt that anyone's home made kit will work as well as this aquamist product

Then again maybe you will suprize me !

nice numbers.....i gotta get that next after i get my ETS 57-Trim turbo put on and tuned .
