looks expensive. A friend has some cosworth heads for his wrx. They are very nice, but costly.

it does look expensive but not to bad including a new shortblock- I know people have had great success with the JUN stroker kit which uses cosworth pistons (maybe even more) and that is around $6500 with no shortblock--- but if i was going all out on a motor there is nothing i would want more than cosworth stuff especially the little things that are so very important like the rod bearings and studs

I'm kinda shocked as to why the 2.0L motor is cheaper than their 2.2L block?

Because it uses a OEM crank, and not a custom billet crank.

And the reason that it uses an OEM (forged, nitrided) crank is that the 2.0L factory crank is darn near bulletproof. Note that the Cosworth 2.0L uses a new factory block and and new factory crank. Since the only difference is pistons and rods, and there are large numbers of extremely well crafted aftermarket forged piston and rod suppliers, I'd not think that one would pay $3000+ more for this bottom end than a Buschur, AMS or RRE shortblock.
