Anyone have issues with KOYO Radiator (drain plug leaking!)

Ok so I have no clue why but my KOYO radiator drain plug is leaking (very slowly). I've always drained it by removing the lower pipe as the drain plug is kinda hard to get to... Has anyone else had this problem or would anyone have any advice?

I don't have my instructions so I'm not sure if there is anything in there that might help me out... I'm wondering now if I can buy a replacement plug? I hate to pull the radiator out again as it has fresh coolant in it now :-\

humm, I've never had that problem w/ mine. try some teflon tape on it and you don't have to take the radiator out. Just unscrew it from under the car...gl

are you talking about the aluminum koyo one. if so, my friend had the very same problem. he tried to tighten the drain plug so much until the tip broke. and it is still leaking slowly

well i dunno on this one... it appears to have stocked leaking but I'd like to take the drain plug out and see if I can find an aluminum bolt to take its place... or maybe a replacement plug.

This is what you do just chill. Drill the hole out. Find someone that knows how to weld aluminum and have them weld an aluminum -6 or - 8 adapter an fitting. You can purchase a cap for the adapter that screws on to it and wala like new. I had to do this on my old aluminum radiator because I tightend it too much and the drain cap broke inside.

To be honest I've never even used the drain plug.. it's easier to pull the lower radiator pipe off and drain it that way... with that said I'd love to just have the cap removed and the hole welded shut.

The problem is I don't know anyone local who can weld worth a damn. Last time I tried a new guy (only guy i could find to weld stainless) he took 2 days to weld in a bung in a DP and 3 days later the DP cracked almost in half :\

I need to drain the coolant and take it off the car... If the hole is threaded I could find an aluminum bolt to plug it with and some sealant to make sure it never comes loose.

I had the similar problem, the plastic "thing" was leaking verrrryyy slowly...
I just tight it at it's limit but to make sure, I used High Temp Marine grade silicone to seal the drain plug.

And like you said pull the lower radiator if you want to drain, faster and easier.
