Thanks for all the compliments. I was hopeing that you guys would find it usefull, or at least entertaining.

Muchang: I decided not to have the rotating assembly balanced because I didn't plan on spinning the engine higher than stock, and my last set of eagle rods were all very close in weight anyways.

rednnija: I havn't noticed much vibration above 4k. I havn't taken it up real high under full throttle yet, but I have slowly reved it up to 6k or so. Also this is the only EVO I have ever driven, so i don't have anything to compare it to. Its killing me to finally be able to drive my EVO and not be able to really get on it Both me and my girlfriend (whos ridden in several DSM with no balance shafts) have said how nice and smooth this car idles and runs.

Turbospoolinins: No big turbo in the future. I want to get the most out of the stock one. Besides this is my daily driver, I have my Talon for the big turbos I just need to keep telling my self that

No no no. Talon + big turbo = daily driver. Evo = every other day driver + big turbo. Tell yourself that.

Well, I was going to tell you about a neat little trick to pre-oil the engine before you start it, but it looks like you are already past that point!

No, the Talon has been my baby for the last 6 years andhasn't seen winter in 5. Its in better shape than the EVo. I try to only have one unrealiable money pit at a time Although when i sell my current daily driver (03 SVT Focus) I may have to find a old cheap truck for the nasty salty winter days.

What is the trick? Other people would probably find it usefull and I may for the next rebuild.

I packed my oil pump with white grease. And prior to starting the engine I dissabled the ignition and cranked the engine over several times to get some oil flowing.

i know of one nice trick.
after you install the front cover, head and oil pan, pour about 2 quarts of oil in the head. the 2 quarts is to make sure no oil flows out of the oil drain hole. then take a drill and attach a, i think, 14mm socket and spin the oil pump gear. this will drive the oil pump at about 1000rpm and get oil through the entire system. you will actually see the oil shooting up from around the lifter.

and btw, and excellent excellent writeup. thank you
