Very useful info. Thanks. Just finished my 272in 264ex install. No probs at all. No noisey lifters. Found a small allen key was ideal for bleeding the lifters. As advised, the first one feels a bit weird while you work out what is going on, but from there its fine.

I didn't want to start a new thread, so I will ask here.
To everyone doing your install at home... How important is the tentioner tool? and I also read that it is normal for the crank to not be in time with the cams (a few degree's off BTDC)
I am only doing the exhaust cam... I am worried about the timing marks and this tentioner tool that I don't have. Is there something else you guys are using in place of this?
Please help out a fellow Evo brotha

u have to have the tool or take the belt completely off. One or the other. My DSM has the crank a lil lil bit off the exact mark. but if u try one tooth either way then its way off. So u should get the point. Look at it first and make sure its int he same spot afterward, mark it with touch up paint if u have to.

can somebody tell me what the size of the stock evo 9 cams are? I got a 264 ex from a friend and wondered if it was worth installing; or whether I should just buy a 272?

I did the DIY tool using threaded rod and 2 nuts locked together. I wouldn't recommend it. I was lucky and it worked ok... but the threaded rod was bent when it came out so I was lucky it didnt break.

Also a nice idea is to mark the belt and your cam gears with white paint to ensure you dont slip a tooth.

Drives: a soon to be built FORCE-FED PERFORMANCE beast...

I have done a few of these now from my garage and a tensioner tool (real one, not a knock off home made) is damn near a necessity. I wouldn't recommend doing a cam install otherwise. marking the cam gears and belt work the best and interchanging to new ones one at a time. Evo Moto tech install tips are awesome, follow them to a "T". Good luck everyone.

dang it, wish the mechanic that did mine knew what he was doing. mines bounces all over from 500-1000 at idle. Guess I could think about taking it in the have it bled down....shouldn't cost much to do
