actually the evo never sends more than 50% to the rear, there is a thread on here somewhere that spells out the numbers. IIRC the "snow" setting is 85-f, 15--r, and tarmac is 50/50.

I don't have an Evo with the tarmac/gravel/snow settings (got an 03'), but I think it goes as follows:
Snow setting: front wheels get more power/torque (acts more like FWD)
Gravel setting: 50/50 front-back split, power sent equally (AWD)
Tarmac setting: rear wheels get more power/torque (acts more like RWD)

At least this is what I have heard. The setting basically change the % distribution of power from front to back wheels depending on the setting chosen. This change maximizes drivablity/performance in those set conditions (snow, gravel & tarmac).

also does anyone know how the 2004 and 2003 split their torque vs the 3 setting of the 2005, i am looking at a dealer that has a new 2003 gsr and a new 2004 RS and a new 2005 gsr and a 2005 mr
i might be interested in the 2004 rs if the split is right and price is good, what does everyone think of the handling 2004 rs vs 2005 rs

Well since the 05 RS will have the ACD it should perform better I would think but I have never driven anything else but an 03 VIII so I am no expert.

Again does anyone KNOW the difference between the tarmac/gravel/snow settings and what is the split on the 2004 RS. the dealer i am looking at has a 2004 RS but it has over 200 miles on it, that scares me, i believe strongly in a good break in period, so guys talk me out of this car
plus i plan to RALLYCROSS this car so i may not need the 3 settings dependiing on what the 2004 rs setting is, [would like the extra Horse power and torque though]
thanks

I believe the 03' & 04' both have the 50/50 split, but with no front diff., so even when an 05' is set at tarmac it has a tad bit better handling capabilities (as far as skid pad "G's").
