HKS 7460R + HKS Cams 416/399 on 93 pump

I finally had the chance to install the HKS cams/springs that came with the turbo. Big thanks to VRspeed (tscompusa) for providing the tuning support.

Mod list, besides the cams:
Walbro Fuel pump
Vishnu- V-band 3”TBE
Megan 02 Housing
Busher’s ported exhaust manifold
ETS 3” FMIC
ETS LICP
Injen intake/UICP
Forge MBC
Twin SD clutch
PTE 1000’s

On 100% 93 shell gas

Before the Cams, it made 371/355 on 93 pump and 401whp/381wtq on 93/100 mix

Well, I don't have a bulit bottom or meth. Also, TQ was kept low to save the bottom.

Well I thought the HKS 274/278 cams were somewhat mild, but that's some good pickup before and after. I might have to rethink (again) between these and the Tomei 270 procams

Given the type of turbo and your boost spike, I figured it would hold better than 22psi though--My spike is 26 psi and holding 24 to redline but I also have an EBCS.

Impressive numbers from the cams. Gotta love all that low end torque too...

The boost spike will be taken care of as soon as I get the Grimmspeed boost controler.

hey guys i was actually going to post this car myself after we did the ecu boost on it to show how much impact it has on smaller frame turbos, but i guess 18bora was happy already where it is now lol.

i guess ill still post the before & after in a new thread once we get the results (or let 18bora).. my goal is 450 on 93oct for the drag tune.

there will be a drag tune & a road course tune.. the road course tune will be conservative to keep EGT's in check.

The AFR did not increase EGT when leaned out, actually lowered it.. its hitting 11.8 uptop.. but that line will be straightened out.. again, didnt expect him to post the results just yet..

more to come after we get the ecu boost installed and tuned.

car was converted over from stock rom to v7 and these are the results after 7 pulls.

hopefully ecu boost will make this little guy shine uptop.

Tom, did u see any evidence of the 3" intercooler holding the car back or allowing knock at this power/boost level? Thanks....amazing results coming from VRSF tuning lately, very impressive

TOM spends a lot of time on his tunes and fixes issues that most tuners would not want to deal with and help troubleshot as well.

OP you will be very happy when you get the Grimmspeed and have it tuned in as its a very nice piece.

Compared to that first curve in blue, (which personally, I'd go back to that) there is a 70ft-lb increase @ 3200.

blue lines what the car is running.. the red line had 1-2 counts that started around 1900rpm before he even got into boost.. the car has false knock, we didnt 100% remove it yet. the reason it effected the power is because the ecu switched to the low octane map and my timing is lower on that map for safety reasons & the knock sensor decay timer on the evo's puts the sensor in super alert mode when even 1 count is registered and this cars already very noisey, so when 1 count is registered you get a train of 1's and 2's .. and in turn it pulled timing and the red line is the result of the timing curve. hope that made sense

expect much better curves/results once the tunes finalized

finished tunes from me have 0 counts .. and we confirm this by doing 1,2,3,4 gear, and etc.. its time consuming, but im really meticulous when it comes to tuning cars.

next graph should have quicker spool, more power, multiple consistent runs.

If you lost temperature in the EGT when you leaned it out... you're putting out the fire. WRONG WAY.

EGT lowered when we went from 11.1 to 11.5 then from 11.5 to 11.8 they raised a bit. (im referring to 7000rpm+ area)

Thanks for the explanation.

I was just pointing out to the unimpressed guy that @ the RPM's below,
these are the torque increases over his 9 turbo (and I do think that 9 turbo tune is pretty awesome for a street type tune).

And it sounds like you are not even done yet.
