Mellon Tuning EVO 9 stock turbo 93/meth 395awhp 410tq

Customer: Chris
Username: my04s2k
Location: Mt. Pleasant, SC
2006 EVO9 5speed USDM
walbro
wb02
93 octane & meth kit w/snow performance boost juice 49/51 meth
31psi
tbe test pipe ported 02 mani
cone filter
Cosworth 272

this car was already tuned by someone else but Chris wasn't happy with the AFR being inconsistent and stalling issues. I noticed it was also running too much timing and hurting performance. I scrapped what he had and put a little more polish on it.

The car should crack 400 on a dynojet as my DLL settings are slightly more conservative.

Chris / Mellon - Can you explain "the car had too much timing and hurting performance" ? Was the car knocking ? I am not challenging your statement, just curious if you have found that beyond X* hurts power. TIA !

timing will vary car to car with fuel and mods being the factor. in my case to much was causing a lack of power. the logs i sent mellon when we started were not full of knock very little, by reducing timing and creating a steady afr the car made more power.

The Mellonster struck again! That's a healthy dose of TQ. Must be fun on the the street.

the problem is that some mustang dynos are stingy and some are generous because of how they were setup so I can't give you an exact number. I'd guess maybe 25-50awhp less. hard to say

he hit the nail on the head, I'll just add that you can go too far with timing and actually hurt the performance especially with excellent fuels such as e85, c16, q16, vp import etc...

like mellon said some are high some low. i don't want to start WW3 talking about one vendors dyno to the next, that being said you can check out some similar stock turbo evo9's and make your own conclusions.

Nice power band! and it comes on so early!

And yup... Dynojets are more standardized. Mustang Dynos can read higher than a dynojet or as low as a Dyno Dynamics. Its all about how it was setup by the operator. Reading TOO LOW is also just as incorrect as reading TOO HIGH.
Also... DLL is as accurate as how the user sets it up as well. Mellon has conservative settings and i personally witnessed about 4-5 of his tunes on our local mustang dyno. They all dynoed 2-10whp more than Mellon's DLL figures. But this mustang dyno reads higher than lets say Buschurs low reading one. Id say our local mustang dyno reads like a dynojet.
