Mellon Tuning FP Green and Red pump vs Red e85 results
Brandon, a long time customer brought his beast back down this weekend for a retune on e85 and I thought it might interest some of you to see the cars progression through various setups:
Owner: Brandon
Username: tsurugi-san
Location: Arkansas
2006 EVO9 MR
up first:
FP Green
93 octane
28 psi
Cosworth cams
PTE 780cc injectors
tbe, 02, ported mani and tb
FMIC
DLL 389hp/367tq (below is the only chart I could find)
Changes:
FP Red
91 octane
30 psi
Buschur 2.0 and Stage III head
Summer Heat
DLL 395hp/356tq
Changes:
e85
39psi
twin walbros with pressure relief disabled
PTE 1200cc injectors
IDC 82%
DLL 522hp/473tq
91oct 30psi vs e85 39psi
I need to talk to Brandon about the exhaust particulars, I can't remember if he had a test pipe or high flow cat. I also wonder if a cam change would make an improvement. Regardless, it's one hell of a quick car...power everywhere. Lots of fun to ride in.

i have a question after looking at this. At what point is twin walbro dual fuel pump needed??? 600whp less or more or what?? also they say you need double pumper and 1200cc injectors to run e85 is it possible to run it without that stuff just for testing say single walbro and 1000cc injectors

when discussing fuel supply you must first lay down your hp goal and fuel of choice in order to make a decision.
with 93 octane a single walbro and 1000cc injectors is good for 500awhp for example, above that, it's time to do twin pumps. e85 requires about 25% more volume to make the same power as 93 octane so the fuel system would need to be more robust.

I suspect you'll be close...I'd go with twin pumps just in case...it sure would stink to have to halt the tuning process and do it again at a later date

understandable...I re-used my stock one since the stock shorty/head was perfectly fine when I pulled it after many miles at 500+awhp for what it's worth.

I am averaging 15mpg with only city driving and the few races on the weekends with reaming in between. This is at 760WHP and some aggressive cams that dont get the best fuel mileage haha. Im also maxing out 1450cc injectors... That's using a lot of fuel I think if i did some tweaks to my map and did just a hwy mpg test i think i can get 20mpg or so...
