Mellon Tuning stock EVO9 turbo 93 octane 380awhp 355tq
Owner: Matt
Username: Charon2123
Ft. Campbell, Ky
2006 EVO9 6-speed
Matt
93 octane
25psi
3" tbe
cone filter
Kelford 272 cams
Matt (Charon2123) and Dan (Chemwarrior) made the long trip from Ft. Campbell, KY to me in Horn Lake, MS (just south of Memphis). Great guys, we had a good time working on Matt's EVO. After checking out the car we only found a leak at the throttle body shaft seals. We decided to do a baseline on the stock tune at 20psi (where Matt he had it for the trip). The results were 285awhp 293tq which isn't bad for completely untuned. We loaded up my custom tune for his EVO and began upping the boost and after each pull we all just started grinning The car was really waking up. In the end we stopped at 380awhp 355tq nearly 100awhp gained. I'd call that great bang for the buck
Matt's thinking about a turbo upgrade to either a BBK Full or FP HTA Green in the future and some bigger injectors like the PTE 1000cc. I'm pushing him towards the HTA Green. I'll have some results with that turbo on another customers car that I tuned previously with the BBK Full very soon to make sure we're making the right choice.
Here's the overlay, it just goes to prove the point, all of the mods in the world are useless without a good tune.
20psi untuned vs 25psi Mellon Tuned
Update:
PTE 1000cc injectors
02 housing
AMS 3.5" FMIC and pipes
FP Red w/18psi WGA
28psi

Reasons why you are looking at the Green instead of the BBK?

I've tuned a BBK on a car with nice mods and wasn't impressed, the turbo failed later, was rebuilt and failed again and warranty denied citing "neglectful install" (horse ****). We're going to try the FP HTA Green and I expect it to whip the BBK Full in every way and hold together longer than a few weeks.

First of all, Chris outstanding job as usual. It's always a pleasure making the drive to your house and talking shop. The car is a completely different animal now. Matt and I have been wrenching on his car for the past two weeks adding all kinds of aftermarket parts. He was really anxious to get the tune done because I kept telling him that Chris' services will really make the difference as is evident from the above graph. You just can't beat gaining 100awhp for less than $400.
Now to answer the above question, Matt is really on the fence between the two turbos. He's like a kid in a candy store when it comes to modding his car (thanks to his patient and understanding wife ) so he is constantly reading reviews and updates from other owners which in turn is influencing his buying decision. Both turbos offer great gains and for what Matt is looking for it will be a hard decision. A major factor in his decision making though might be the price difference. We'll just have to stand by.

I also forget to mention that I finally got a ride in Chris' 700 awhp beast and it was a blast. Unfortunately the roads were a little damp so we couldn't get the full effect but nevertheless it was still awesome. Thanks again Chris.

Let's just say that I was thankful that there was something to grab on to in the backseat.

I'm at 332whp with BR Stage 1-4 upgrades in place on their Mustang Dyno. I'm curious as to how your HP ratings are calculated?

the moral of the story: the sum of slower + older + harsher + less perfect = more fun. and more fun is why i'm back in an evo.

Chris,
It was great seeing you and yes it WAS a blast to drive on the way home!!!
The main reason I am leaning toward the HTA Green (vice the BBK) is because they seem to perform roughly similar (from what I have gathered) and the Green is less expensive if I supply the core ($869 for the Green; $1250 for the Full).
Anyway, I am looking forward to adding all the supporting stuff and the Turbo this winter, pending other-half approval...

that is some shocking power, and i typically don't see heavy gains on cams with that mod list. Looks like the car liked timing..

Please, for the love of god, please do! I'm so sick of the HTA green pimping w/ hardly any results behind it I can't stand it much longer!
