Tom & Tony Powell's video and year in review

Jarrod's been super busy finishing up some end of year videos. This one is of Tom and Tony Powell's runs from the very end of the season.

What a great year for the father/son team of Tom and Tony Powell.

The set out this season to set the stock appearing turbo record. This wasn't going to be an easy task as it was already a record said by the guys in Puerto Rico down into the 9's.

You have to really know Tom to understand that if he puts his mind to doing something, it's going to get done. It's not "if" it's going to get done, it is more a matter of when.

Tom's trip to Ohio to pursue this record started out to be a short visit of a few days. This turned into a week, then two weeks and ended up being a 3 week stay. There was a hell of friendship formed while he was here and the amount of respect I gained for him is very-very high. Anyway, I'll try to keep the personal relationship out of this and stick to the car

The car is a 2006 EVO9.

The build for the record stock appearing turbo runs consisted of:

BR, Stage 3, 2 liter
BR, Stage 3 cylinder head
FP 5r cams
BR double pumper
PTE 1200cc injectors
Powell ported exhaust manifold
BR 02 housing
Indy EVO's air induction box
Indy EVO's dual pass lightweight radiator
BR electric water pump kit
BR Race FMIC
AEM EMS, tuned by David and Tom
Wilwood brakes on all four corners
Tilton clutch
Volk wheels and Hoosier slicks
Custom roll bar
Carbon fiber race seat
BR 2.5" upper and lower i/c pipes
BR lightweight battery kit
Wilson Manifolds, V2, modified stock intake manifold
BR 65 mm throttle body
FP EVO Red turbo

The car layed down a freaking amazing 562 whp and 544 ft lbs of torque with that combination and was able to set the world record for a stock appearing turbo on an EVO, 9.577 ET and a best MPH of 145.16.

Tom accomplished his goal and before the ink on the time slip was even dry decided it was time to step up his program and "go big".

We pulled the stock ported exhaust manifold, 02 housing and FP Red off the car.

We put the Shearer sponsored tubular header kit on with the BR/PTE FS635 turbo kit. This turbo kit is a GT35r based turbo with a .82 A/R turbine housing. A custom 4" inlet was made to the turbo and the car was put back on the dyno.

What happened next was, well impressive. Dyno'ing the car in just 3rd gear it layed down 683whp and 514 ft lbs of torque!

We once again headed to the track and made a few passes with the car. Traction was not our friend as you will see in the video.

In just a few runs the car ran 9.20 at 157.63 mph!

Here is a video of all car, the track and the good times that came from the hard work:

Wowser's David. I didn't know you did this. I just logged in and had 4 or 5 PM's to answer then went to this thread. Our success was based solely on the support that we received from Buschur Racing and our sponsors. David, you've proven to be a true friend. A friend that can be called on, day or night, good times or bad times. You're always there. Tony and I both thank you and all of Buschur Racing for the 'whatever it takes' attitude. Your parts are only surpassed by your attitude and friendship. We've shared a lot of knowledge and ideas this year. I've learned so much from you, a simple post can't say it all. I've also learned when you keep quiet, it doesn't mean you don't know something, you could be laughing inside at what you DO know. I can now tell the difference when you ask a question as to whether you're really asking a question, or making me think. You're my friend and always will be. Buschur Racing has been very good to Tony and I and we appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts. Now that the mutual bs has been said, Let's harness the power we both make and put it all to good use! Thanks again.

Very nice!

And I have to agree with Dave as Tom being a stand up guy that deserves everything he has done! Between Dave, Tom, and Indy the Evo world is much farther along today than it was a year ago!

Just look at all the 9 second cars that BR has put out this year! No one cant touch or argue the fact that Buschur was the #1 company this year, and Im sure with the way things are shaping up, 2009 will be NO different!

Just to clarify, the videos that were posted are on the FS635 turbo, those are not videos from the Red.

Tom, everything you said to me, right back at you I value our friendship more than you know, I am sure. 2009 will be our year for 8's. Looking at your dyno sheet today and the rest of what I know..............your car is going in deep.
