Rear Speaker Problem, Help!

I just purchased my Evo about a week ago, and it came with a very poorly installed Jensen in-dash DVD player model number VM9512. I pulled it out when I found my left rear speaker to not be working and found there is a lot of rigged wiring which I took apart and properly soldered everything, still no sound from the left rear. The stereo has rca connectors coming out of it that go to an adapter that then plugs into the factory amp connector I believe (looks something like a big S-Video plug). When I tried swapping the right and left channels for the rear to see if there was a bad channel, still same results. But what I noticed was that when I plug one channel in for the rear I get only tweeter noise, but when I plug in both, then I get full sound out of still only the one speaker. I'm thinking this is a problem with the adapter setup in there, but I'm not positive. Anyone got any suggestions?

Are the rear speakers factory? Any other aftermarket audio parts in the car?

The headunit is the only thing aftermarket as far as audio goes

The best way to trouble shoot your issue is to completely uninstall then reinstall everything with all new wiring. Or take it to a professional......which will prolly cost an arm and a leg. If it were me.....UPGRADE TIME!!

Is there a factory amp (SSL)? Did you install the headunit with a harness adapter or did you have to solder in the headunit harness?

I'd go with what was said up top and completely rewire it. It sucks but atleast you'd know what was what and how it was done. Not sure how skilled you are in that area to do that but it's not too hard at all.

I have a degree in Electronics engineering so I do have some skill in working with this kind of thing, but I got completely puzzled with this one and don't know how the Evo's are wired up with their factory systems. The headunit came installed with an adapter from the radio to the factory harness that goes to my stock infinity amp under the seat. Recently I just bought a 4-channel amp and am going to just hardwire everything directly from the headunit down to the amp and hopefully this will fix my problem.
