Best Head Unit under $200?

What are some good aftermarket head units out there under $200?

- Must have iPod touch compatibility.
- Simple plug n play. No extra battery, amp, etc.

I was close to getting an FM transmitter to use with the oem radio but I figuire I should just spend a little extra and get a better head unit.

Thanks

I just got a pioneer premier deh-p510ub for just over 200. It has everything you're looking for. I'm really happy with it for the price.

Did it come with a Evo specific wire harness or do you have to splice?

How can you blame them? Subaru is the best, everyone knows that.

Best Buy had the Alpine CDE-102 for $149 and the CDA-105 for $199. And the IDA-X200 for $149. That one is for mp3 only, no CD slot.

I just bought this JVC: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KDR6...vc+600&tp=5684

Crutchfield includes the harness so you just twist together the wires and it's a piece of cake to install.

It has a usb slot, and aux in, plays mp3 data discs, cds, etc.. Just about everything you can throw at it. If you connect an ipod using the usb slot the headunit controls the ipod. If you connect it with the aux input the hu just handles volume.

I think is a great hu...especially tha ability to change the color of the face between like 25 dif colors. So I can make it match the red gauges or my green usb drive.

The next model up is about $20 more and add xm radio or something. Still under $200.

i have an old pioneer which i am still using. (mp3/not ipod capable).

this one is pretty cheap and comes with the adapter. I think the only thing you need to get is the harness so you dont need to cut the factory wires. but you can get that on ebay for like $10.

Im wondering about these wiring harnesses.......the Evo MR's that came with sports meter kits had a piggy back harness that the sports meters tapped into. I wonder if I could use that on an after market head unit and not have to tap into the factory wiring.

You can use the gauge wiring just for power/ignition. You can go to any stereo shop, best buy, walmart, and probably autozone and get a harness adapter so you don't need to splice any wiring.

BB was selling the harness for $20 and Crutchfield gives you one for free so I went with them.

And don't worry about the wiring. It's amazingly simple to deal with, gauges or not.

I'm surprised someone said the word "splice." Don't hack up your car no matter what you do. That will just mean someone is going to have to fix that **** later on. Just be happy you don't own a car with a digital harness. Go check out the price of those and you will feel a lot better about the price you pay for an Evo harness.

I'm an Alpine fan so I will suggest Alpine. My bro works for BB so I get a great price for my decks. Just get a HU that fits exactly what you need it to do. Just because a deck is like $50 more doesn't mean it will work better for you. You may not need the extra stuff you're paying for.
