Alarm question: viper 5901 vs. clif 50.7x
I am almost ready to pull the trigger on an alarm for my evo since I am installing a 2 din radio. MY car has already been broken into before and I live in a pretty crappy neighborhood, and sometimes I am to lazy to park the evo in the garage since I have to build a ramp every time
My question is, what are the main differences between the two of these systems? It is tough to tell with all of the marketing terms used lol..I have experience with 12v electronics, and I am thinking of installing it myself. My main concern is tracking down where to tap into the wires I need. Is there any info available that is evo specific on where to tap into the scources I will need? If I were to pay a shop to install it how much should I expect to pay for a top notch install using remote start? I definitely like the 2 way systems and I like all of the info provided onto the remote..I know they are made by dei but is ther any difference besides the plastic case of the remote?

They really are almost the same thing, I have been doing research on these cause I am looking at the exact same 2 models. DEI makes great pruducts, I have had Viper before and it was a good alarm.
I have decided to go with Viper but the Clifford one is suppost to be just as good. Clifford has been around a little longer from what I hear. www.directed.com is the web page for the two, it has information to help you out. Do you know if we need a immobilizer or bypass like most vehicles need? I ask cause you said you wanted to install it yourself, I figured you would know. I will be getting mine proffesionally installed, but Im buying everything online cause its cheaper.
If you want to get a deal on one of the two PM and I will hook you up.

I have had the Viper 7900 in my Evo for just about a year. I had two alarms done. The shop told me that the 5900 was fine for my daughters Scion with automatic, but that the equipment to remote start the manual trans Evo only worked with the 7900. The install requires a key bypass module ( and a spare key ), and the clutch interlock module.
The installer tapped into one of the injector wires for the signal to show the engine had started. The voltage there was a little below what Viper said they required, and he was in contact with Viper tech for quite a while. The injector wire worked fine in spite of the low voltage.

On topic, both are great systems. Off topic to darkevo, I had no issues with voltage sense on my evo.

If I will not be using the remote start will I still need the bypass?
There really isnt a difference, the remote and type is different thats all I could find.

You will not need a 556uw(bypass) if you are not doing remote start.

You do not need a spare key for a bypass. Look up Pku-mit (I think that's what it is), it's a bypass that doesn't require a spare key. There's also a way to disable the immobilizer via ecuflash if you want to do it that way.

The difference will most likely be the shock sensor and siren. The Clifford units don't use the generic DEI siren and shock sensor. AFAIK everything else is the same.

The installer lied to you about the 5900 not working with the manual safe unit. The install does not require a spare key because as stated above, alternate modules can be used. There is also a tach wire available in the harness behind the instrument cluster. That wire has a better signal than the one at the injector. Clutch interlock module???, a simple SPDT relay will be sufficient.

+1. Same for me. The only issue I had with voltage sense was that with the AC on and the car wicked hot, in the summer, the car would shut off and restart after a few minutes. Never had this problem with tach sense mode.

So is it safe to say the shock sensor is of higher quality on the clifford kit, and the siren sounds cooler?

Actually, scratch the shock sensor comment I forgot these new units have the shock sensor built in to the brain. The Clifford sirens are a little bigger and more robust in design than the standard DEI sirens. It sounds the same.
