anyone using an iPod FM receiver ? please help

I have the plug-in iPod FM receiver, which simply plugs into the 12v cig lighter, and then works off any FM channel.... I bought a brand name receiver, not the $3 one from eBay. it worked perfectly for some time, then my car stood for 3 weeks while i was away.
When i came back, suddenly the receiver doesnt work. horrible reception, and nothing but Static noise on every channel. The amazing thing is that when i cover the ipod or even the receiver with my hands, it works perfectly, but as soon as i take my hands away, back to the Noise. meaning if i put my hands close to it, reception becomes great, as soon as i take my hands away, reception disappears and only noise.
Im sure its something with the car, or the cars radio, not the receiver. something in the car is now jamming the signal... I know because i did two things to check - I tried another FM receiver in the car, and same thing. and, second, this receiver works fine in other cars.

any ideas ?? is it possible that something in the radio or wiring got messed up while the car was in the garage for 3 weeks ?


P.S. the radio itself works absolutely fine on all FM/AM channels

It's usually those parts that tend to go bad over time. If it hasn't been too long and if possible, try to exchange it for another one or return it. I'm usually not fond of FM transmitters, and if you don't mind your ipod not charging and don't want to get an aftermarket radio w/ an direct ipod connection, I'd suggest something like this part here.

It'll go through one of two channels on your radio and it only comes on when you turn the switch on, there's almost no static.

trust me they suck....radio stations bleed into the signal aaaaalll di time. I went to a direct plug in solution on my last car and wouldn't do anything else now.

It did get pretty cold these past few weeks...maybe it didn't like the temps?

like i said, i bought a new one just to try it, and same problem. all static.

but once again, the amazing thing is with my hands (or anyone elses hands). put you rhand over, and the signal is strong and music is clear.

I tried one once and the sound quality is horrible...if you have the money get a aftermarket headunit and it will sound a lot better. I have a pionner with the ASR and MP3's sound exactly like CD's. Good Luck

yeah i had the same problem...they are crap...i even tried the wire out of the back aux on my pioneer...was better but still doesn't sound nowhere near as good as a cd so i just took it out....best thing is get a HU that has ipod input on the front...otherwise don't bother with it

internals on the transmitter are prolly fried. I had a belkin for the last couple years with good results.
