Sub Rattle

Well I have two Kicker CompVR 10's that were in my previous car and I haven't thought about putting them in my Evo until now.

I'm getting a new headunit (Alpine CDA-9884) so it matches the gauges and I can play music off my iPhone.

My question is, for those with subs, does it rattle the trunk, etc really bad? I know all about Dynomat, but I'm not wanting to get into it that much.

Any other problems with using subwoofers? Mine will be in a ported box.

Bump?

I know there are plenty of you guys running subs in your car so give me some info!

Also, anyone used aftermarket tweeters? What kind of modifications did you have to do to get them to fit?

I have two 12' Alpine type Rs in my trunk with no Dynomat... It rattles but I can't hear it from inside the car. Outside the car it isn't that bad unless I'm playing something with a crazy amount of bass (hip hop). Don't go with a dynomat... It's not worth it.

I mainly listen to hip-hop so that's where my concern came in. I just was curious as to how bad it does rattle.

What is your full systems specs?
And do you have aftermarket tweeters?

Dynomat won't do much to fix actual metal to metal rattle. It will help with "rattle" from panels flexing. Aftermarket components/coaxials are a must, especially non-SSL, if you want any kind of clarity above average volume.

I have a single 12 in a custom enclosure and i get no rattles. I am running diamond seperates in the fronts and i pulled the rear spakers out. Its plenty of sound for me. I am also running a diamond amp for the whole system.
My point is if you can get the right enclosure you wont have to suffer the weight gain of dynomat.

I remember seeing a previous thread were a guy had a ported kicker box, and he couldnt get any bass out of it. I think he ended up sealing the ports but give it a shot.

Pretty sure it will rattle .

Ive had 1 Kicker L5 10" in 1.3cu tuned to 42 HZ .

Facing forward right behined the back seat sealed off it would rattle the dash a lil .

Facing to the rear 4"-6" from the back of the trunk (about 3dbs louder) it would rattle the rear bumper , trunk lid , dash , A pillows and so on .

With only 150watts .

License was all that rattled in mine with a custom box and a JL 12W3v2. But my trunk had a bit of dynamat in it.

Gonna bump this for a follow up.

Well I just installed my new headunit (Alpine CDA-9884) which is awesome btw. Just need to get a amp and I'll be ready to try the subs out.

I had the subs in my car for a while but decided to take it out since it's just uneccessary weight right now.

Something I noticed when I did have them in, waas how much it slid around. Since our trunk carpet is removable, it doesn't provide a very stable area for the sub box to sit on...not to mention taking "Evo turns" makes it slide around a lot.

I was wondering what you guys have done to prevent the box from sliding around?

You can bolt/screw it to the floor. Be careful for fuel lines, etc. if you do this. You could also try carpet spikes like they put on the bottom of home speakers. That probably won't keep if from sliding around, but it should reduce how much it slides around.

oh yeah, it'll rattle. it sounds fine in the car, but will be like a hooptie if you get the bass up too high.
