Custom Speakers for the IX

First off a little background info. I have been in the Audio business since 1976. So when I got my evo like everybody else here I was really upset about the factory system and couldn't believe how poor it sounded. So I got together with one of the speaker manufacturers I do business with and had them make me a set of custom replacement speakers designed for the evo,s doors and rear deck. The rear deck speakers are made with Kevlar woofer and a silk dome tweeter and the doors with a Poly.woofer and the same silk dome tweeter and they are a Coaxial design. The crossover for the rears is a 12db slope..and the doors are a simple bandpass crossover (for now). I got the first 2 sets last week and have installed the rear speakers in my car and a friends car so far to see if the design works as well as it should. And.. WOW..the improvement is just amazing! I made these to run off the stock head units power output but can handle 65watts RMS each. The other evo has an aftermarket head unit with way more power than the stock unit and of course the speakers will play much louder before the amp begins to clip. The speakers are capable of 25k hz. on the top end and just a little below 50hz on the bottom end which for car speakers is very respectable. Of course there are some design issues in the fitment part of the experiment..like the rear crossover and the magnets just touching the truck lid support bars and some trimming of the doors plastic grille covers for the tweeter for a start. But considering this is the first design the results are incredible!! So what do you all think of this?? Should I continue this experiment for the rest of you evo guys?? Would anybody out there be interested in using these?? I will be getting all the surprises I found with the install part fixed as fast as I discover them and I should have a DYI "kit" soon so they can really be "drop in" easy. Then it's a matter of cost..to have 8 speakers custom for the "test" cars made was NOT very inexpensive..but to have a real production run in quanity will drop the manufacturing cost way down. Please let me know what you all think.........Thanks, Pete
